renting a camper for dogs

We want to take my husbands grandparents with us to Disney World in October. The only way they would come is if they could bring their pets. (They have 3 dogs.) I had an ideas that they could rent some kind of trailor to hook on the back of their truck. I heard that FW allows pets. I am totally clueless when it comes to camping, so fill me in. Also, in Oct. do you think the weather will be okay for the dogs if they are in the camper during the day. Does anyone have any recommendations for rentals. (I guess they could drive down and rent an rv or trailer near Disney.) What kind of rental do they need? How much is the site rental? Thanks for any info.

Even if you could rent a trailer ...

1. I doubt they would allow pets in it

2. Unless the truck and person driving it has towed before and has the equipment it's probably not worth it and not the safest thing to do if someone is new to towing. Many of these TT are not you 12' u-hauls and take specific equipment that has to be adjusted just right for safety and often is not right the first time out of the box.

Maybe someone has other better ideas, but that's my first cut of this.

Look into Cruise America. They have pet friendly rentals. The are not travel trailers they are Motor Coaches. The prices will depend on the size of the coach you need. The price at The Fort will also depend on the type of site you choose and the time of year you plan on going.

some places will allow pets in their campers. they charge a security deposit that is higher to cover any pet damages..

the thing i worry about is when other animals have been in the camper and they may have done some potty damage, etc. even a well trained pooch will more than likely try to make their mark in it.

Another option is to simply board the pets at the Disney kennel. Then you would have more options on where to stay. The pets would be close....and you could visit them often during the day. Before FW became pet friendly we always boarded our pets while staying on site.

To OP. Whatever you rent, if you are leaving dogs in it you'll need AC. October can be HOT.

Okay..Okay...Wise guys...

I didn't miss it. I just figured THREE dogs...? That's a whole lot of pet dander. Might make it hard on future renters, who might be sensitive to that sort of thing. I know my son is allergic to most dogs.

Don't get me wrong...I love dogs ..I even have a dog. Only THREE dogs in a rental unit. I just wouldn't want to be the family occupying the unit after they leave. Could be tough going.

Of course if they are planning on going AFTER Sept..then by all means, contact Tina!

I feel the exact same way about Kim's popup as Phyllis does about Tina's 5er. Love dogs, but don't want to rent something that someone else's dogs have been in.

With a daughter who has asthma and allergies, I would not want to occupy a popup after someone had rented it for 3 dogs right before us.

It probably is cheaper to rent a campsite and a trailer than to kennel three dogs everyday.

Only if it is a fully enclosed unit such as a Motor Home or Travel Trailer. Pop-up's and pop-out's with canvas are not fully enclosed. A pet could sneak under the canvas & run away. I would not recommend leaving a pet in a non-air conditioned unit in Florida at any time of the year. The weather quite often goes over 75 degrees in the middle of the day (even in the winter) and the inside of a unit can get over 100 degrees in no time. No A/C = No Pets.

I doubt that small rental co.( like Tina's) would rent to a "pet family" and the national rental co's are rather expensive. It just might be cheaper to board the pets and stay at a value resort. I thought the only reason the OP wanted to stay at FW was the pet issue?

Oh... I sort of thought that they were only looking for the site to house the dogs in a trailer or popup that they rented while they stayed elsewhere. Guess I read that wrong. "Renting a camper for dogs" as the thread was titled and not "Renting a camper to camp with our dogs"

I thought that Disney's Kennel prices were something like $33 a day per dog. $15 for the day and $18 for overnight. That would be $99 a day for three dogs. But my math could be wrong.

I have a parial hookup site and rented the popup and it came to just about that price.

I looked over Kim's site for the popup and she doesn't say NO pets... so I may be reconsidering. Thank goodness for this thread because it made me think about that. It would really stink to get there and have my daughter's asthma act up.

Unless the new company operating the kennels has drastically changed, the prices wouldn't be 33 bucks per day. The overnight fee always included the day fee in the past.

We are still trying to talk his grandparents into coming. His grandfather is fine with leaving the pets, but his grandmother is real attached to her pets. I am a huge animal lover, but I still leave my pets at home when we go to disney. Unfortunately, the only way she will come is if she can bring her pets with her. So, we are trying to come up with a way that would make this possible.
