Can anyone tell me if it is possible to rent enough points for 2 or 3 days @ one of the deluxe resorts??? I would just like to try out a deluxe resort. Any info or links u have for me would be great! Thanx!

Due to the higher point costs for non-DVC resorts, in most cases you can make a reservation directly thru Disney for less than renting a non-DVC resort from a member. You can stay in a great 1BR at a DVC resort for fewer points than a standard room at a Deluxe resort and there is a also an additional $95 charge just for the member to make the reservation thru DVC.

You can try on the DVC Rent/Trade Board, but be sure to know what the same room would cost thru DRC before making the reservation.

You might just want to try a 1BR at a DVC resort for a really great villa experience.

Good luck!

It is, but that is considered trading out of DVC basically. Which means it's expensive and there are additional fees and more stringent cancellation penalties (and future usage penalties) for those points for the owner.

It would be cheaper for you just to book a deluxe through Disney directly, preferably with a discount. There are a number of 2011 discount offers out now, but probably none for your dates yet. But there will be more, I'm guessing.

For example, a garden view Poly room during 2010 was 41 points for weeknights. At $10/pt, that would be $410/night. Through Disney for cash, that same room for 2011 is $385 (rack rate). Plus there's a $95 trading out fee the owner would have to pay, and any changes would incur another $95 fee. Etc., etc. Overall, not a plan for renting points that works well.

What do you mean by "Deluxe resorts"? If you are talking about DVC resorts, yes. If you mean the Grand Floridian, it will end up being more costly to rent points for a stay there than just reserving direct through Disney. The reason is because regular Disney hotels are a trade out of the DVC system. The best value is to rent for a DVC resort.

The Disney website lumps DVC Villas in with all the Deluxe Resorts. So if you don't have a particular resort already in mind, try one of the DVC Villas as a rental. As previously noted, the non-DVC Deluxe options will not be cost-effective with DVC points.
