Rental Pts. Purchased thru DVC & Waitlist Q

I called MS today trying to adjust dates for October trip in order to find room @ the inn for all nights needed during DVC portion of trip (currently booked for slightly different dates, but missing day or 2 & waitlisted).

The mr isn't a SSR fan, but i've convinced him it'd be easier to just book there & have the days we need, then waitlist & hope it'd come through somehow - slim chance i know lol.

Problem is my adult kids have raided my points heavier than usual this yearand i'd be 2 points short. I don't want to borrow any points or transfer in from another member for such a small amount. Had thought renting the 2 points from DVC for $15 each would be a perfect so lution.

Confused though, the CM said if i did so it's a final transaction (understandable) but that I couldn't have any waitlists in place for other resorts for same time period due to the 2 points.

I don't understand why - as i'd be happy enough to strand the 2 rental points if the waitlist came thru for my 1st or 2nd choice. Note that i'd have sufficient points in my UY to cover either of those 2 reservations.

Just seems strange to me, did i receive correct information?

Per the MS website:

One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.

Since you can only do a waitlist if you have the points, then you can't use One-time-use vacation points on a WL. It sounds like a Catch 22 situation.

thanx DenLo for posting! i still think that since i don't actually need the rented points for the waitlists (only to book the reservation @ SSR that is currently available), I should be able to book SSR & then request the maximum 2 waitlists to run concurrently.

i'd have enough points in my UY for the waitlist point requirements, with no need for the 2 rental points necessary to rent for SSR.

Perhaps renting points from DVC/mingling with existing points renders all points used a final transaction?

If it were me, I'd call MS, ask for a Supervisor and plead my case. Seems to me if you are willing to abandon the 2 points you bought from DVC if the waitlist works, they should let you do it. Maybe tell the Supervisor that the 2 points were just to be sure you have a back up in place and worth the $30 - kind of like insurance.

It would seem like they should allow you to waitlist knowing that the 2 points can't be used if the waitlist fills.

Seems like it would be a lot easier to just borrow 2 points though..?? And cheaper than the $15/point.

likely i'll be transferring in or in borrowing mode (which i've never had to do before wah!) next spring (same UY) unless i stumble upon a pin codeor manage to travel during potential upcoming FDP dates. then i'll book thru CRO. If anything decent released for early October, i'd cancel this res outright and save points for spring trip.

I did the DVC 24 point purchase for our upcoming June trip and I currently have 2 waitlists trying to move to a different resort. This was never once mentioned to me. I thought that condition meant you couldn't purchase the points and waitlist with them waiting for a resort to open. Now I can see how it could be interpreted the other way, too. Don't know if I should call Member Services or not. Will probably get 6 different responses.

if a WL comes thru, the would utilize UY points first, then the 'rented points' then could even set it up to borrow from next UY.

i was told if either of my WLs materialize, since they use less points than my now existing SSR res, the points would revert to the UY and the rental points would remain 'in play' for the 7 month window...just couldn't bank them.
