I've never stayed off Disney property in Orlando before so I know nothing of the city itself. It looks like my dd's cheer team is going to have a competition at Gaylord Palms Convention Center next April. Instead of cramming into hotel rooms (even if they are right there onsite at GP) some of us moms are talking about renting condos or a big house with a pool and all staying together. I could use some help, please.

Which rental communities are close to Gaylord Palms?

What part of town is the Convention Center in?

Is it near eateries? Attractions? Theme parks?

Any tidbits of info I should know but might not think to ask?

Thanks!

I would say Windsor Hills is close to Gaylord. (6.26 miles) Gated community with lots of amenities and close to eateries, super target, & walmart. homeaway.com or vrbo.com will have lots of info. Gaylord is on the Oscoela Pkwy & S International Dr. and very close to Disney. I-4 interchange is also right there.
192 is about 1/2 mile from Gaylord, and has publix grocery and lots of eateries. Gaylord is huge with the convention center being part of it.

There may be closer communities, but WH is highly recommened, safe, & close. We're staying there in Dec.

Any of the subdivisions in the Formosa Gardens area would do. Windsor Hills, Formosa Gardens Estates, Emerald Island, Windsor Palms, Rolling Hills, Indian Creek, Oak Island etc. There would only be about 2 minutes difference from the closest to the farthest.
Windsor Hills is #1 on this map and the others are to the left; if you click on the markers you'll see them. Gaylord Palms is #182

There's up to 6 bedroom homes in some subdivisions but Emerald Island and Formosa Gardens have 7 and 8 bedroom homes.

there are timeshares a little closer

vacation villa at parkway

if you know someone who has a rci membership - they can get you a 2-bedroom for a fairly good price.

or you can rent from a owner

Thanks for the info so far! I was hoping Windsor Hills was close, since so many hear have such good things to say about it. I'm going to look into Formosa Gardens and Emerald Island, too. With a 7 or 8 bedroom home we can fit more moms and cheerleaders which is more fun for everyone (we are like a little cheerleading family, lol). And thank you for the map! Very helpful!

If you'd like to see Emerald Island homes and pictures of the resort then take a look here:

Windsor Hills is perfect for anything at the Gaylord. I have done a convention/conference at the Gaylord for 3 years and stayed at townhouses at WH 2 of those years. It is about a 5-10 minute drive in the morning and the extra space and the cash you will save more than makes up for the drive. Have a great time!
