We are flying into San Diego on a Friday night, and then driving up the coast to Anaheim on Sunday to stay the week. We are flying out on Saturday from LAX.

I am looking for comments regarding the car rental agencies with respect to convienence in both San Diego and LAX. I'll take whatever I get here and bounce that off the prices to help decide who to use.

All thoughts appreciated....

We are doing the same thing but not until February. I'm very interested in the responses you get. Will you be driving up PCH? Have you found out any information regarding the traffic?

Yes I am. Haven't even thought about the traffic question... then again, I am going North on Sunday, hopefully shouldn't be bad.

One day during our week at PP in Anaheim, we are going up to Venice/Santa Monica area and then working our way east. I expect that to be a nightmare traffic-wise, but what choice do I have!

BTW, so far the best deal I have found so far for a mini-van was at Dollar.

i rented a car last thursday from enterprise in san diego for about 200 for four days. I went to disney on Friday, i left the hotel at 5:30 am and really lucked out with traffic, got there at 7 when they were just opening the gates for an early entry. at 8am! (going back to san diego was a diff story as there was tidous traffic all the way up to downtown)

I would go with whatever company is most convenient in San Diego. At LAX, all of the car rental agencies are offsite, so you will have to catch a shuttle to the airport. I think as long as you stick with one of the major companies (Dollar, Avis, Budget, National, etc.), you'll be fine.

As for convenience, all the agencies are off-site in SD as well! I guess it's just a question of how far off-site really is!

They are all really offsite. Not within walking distance by any means. When you land in San Diego just go get your luggage and then walk outside and you will see several kinds of rental car shuttles out front. We used Alamo on our trip and rented a Sebring Convertible for $280 for a week.

We just rented a mini-van from Enterprise for a week - LAX-LAX. They were the cheapest. $249.50 with all taxes included. All the other's were about $100.00 more. It was very easy with the shuttle service & returning was just as easy. There was a gas station a block away with gas at $2.49 - the average around the area was $2.59. So we were able to gas up before returning the van. There may be a surcharge for not delivering the car to the same rental location. That you would have to check into. We were very happy with Enterprise.

In June we rented a minvan from Thrifty at LAX and returned to SAN. It had the best price as well as the lowest drop-off fee that we could find. One thing I was curious about was being able to find the drop-off location in SAN since we had not flown in there. We called Thrifty and there was a recording with great directions. I assume they would have the same for LAX.

We just returned from California and rented from Budget at LAX and dropped off at San Diego. We got a full-size (Grand Marquis) for just over $150 (plus tax) per week.

We are leaving on Saturday and flying into San Diego and renting a van from Enterprise. Do they have shuttle cars to take you to their office or do we have to call them once we get there?? How far away is thier office???

Thanks,

After you land in San Diego (make sure you look out the plane while coming into the airport AWESOME view), go get all your luggage and walk out the front doors. Look for the sign that says Enterprise and the shuttle bus will take you to their offsite location. I just had a thought that if you are flying in at some funky hour I would call ahead but if it's after 6 am you should be fine. They have regular schedules from I think 6 am to 11 pm. Have a great vacation. If you need some reccomendations for place to eat let me know. I was in San Diego the first week of July and had a great time.

Thanks lovemygoofy! We are flying in around the noon hour so we should be fine.

What were some of the places you enjoyed eating at??? We have 3 children so anything that you think they might enjoy would be very helpful :sunny:

Thanks,
