Rental Cars, how soon to book?

I was wondering if anyone knows how soon you can make a rental car reservation? We are going to be going to Tampa on April 11,2008 for 3 or 4 days and then on to WDW until April 20,2008. We need to book with Dollar rent a car because they have locations at both of the airports. I have emailed Dollar and asked this question, and they told me 365 days before. Unforunately I still can not make a reservation. Somebody fibbed to me. Can anyone out there shed some light on this subject for me. Thanks a bunch!

I can't answer your question as to when you are allowed to rent one, but I'd do it as soon as you find a deal.

I need a minivan in July for 10 days and I found one back in the winter from Dollar for $450 and reserved it. I thought I could get a better deal later, but so far I've only found them for around $600 to $1,000.
