Rental Car vs. Taxi

I live in a town where most people don't take taxis so I'm not really sure what price ranges are.

I'm working on planning a trip to the world for next fall and was tossing around some ideas for getting there and getting around once I am there. I've been thinking of flying and using DME. It's not really cheaper than driving from home, but if I drive through Atlanta again, I may suffer a psychotic break. I know that I would use Disney transportation to get around the world, but would also like to take a couple of days to go to Universal and around Orlando.

I know I can rent a car from the Swan and Dolphin or the Disney Transportation Center. The price looked like it would be $150 - $250. How does that compare to cabbing around Orlando? How much is it on average just to and from Disney to Universal?

I would like to know also. I am going back and forth. do I get a rental car or not. I know taxi to the airport they say runs around $60 each way. We are also planning on going to Islands of Adventure one day. I'm thinking it may end up cheaper to rent a car.

Would love to have suggestions:flower3:

If you don't plan on utilizing Magical Express and your only options are taxi or rental car, I would almost always go with a rental car since you are already $120 in just in round trip to the airport. Then throw in a roundtrip to USO/IOA that is another $60 rountrip.

Also realize that if you have a rental car you can eat offsite if you so choose and you can also stop at a grocery store and pick up incidentals such as a case of water, snacks, sunscreen or anything else you may have forgotten.

Get the rental car! Even taking a taxi from the Pop Century to any of the MK resorts (Grand Floridian, Poly, etc.), it cost me nearly $20 (with tip). After 3 round trips, I know I could have rented a car pretty close to what I was paying for those 3 round trips, plus not have to deal with Disney buses. I know there are those that love the buses -- but I'm not one of them. Plus you could hit the Disney outlets as well as either Universal or Sea World. And you can get some groceries for your room, too! :cool1:
