rental car upgrade?

did you ever get a upgrade for free. What did you say to to get you this upgrade? What kind of up grade did you get I have a car booked with National It is a Prem car do you think I could talk my way to a Delux? I tryed this with thriffty last year but the upgrade would have put me in a 2 door sports car not good with 2 kids and a stroller. well this time it will be three kids a a stoller.

Avis upgraded us from a full size car to a minivan a couple of years ago.

I think the woman at the counter just thought that we needed a break when we walked up carrying a baby, pushing a stroller, carrying a pack-n-play, and dragging three suitcases and two carry-on bags!

Beware any rental agent that tries to sell you an upgrade when you check-in. This is a common ploy when they are out of the car class you reserved. Decline the offer and you'll find yourself driving the higher class car for free.

If an upgraded car is important to you, then you should reserve it to start with.
