I am wondering if a family of 4, 2 adults, 1 13 year old and 1 19 year old can fit into a mid-size car. We will likely have 2 large suitcases, 2 medium size and 1 carry on bag max. We may even have less once we pack. Not sure if a mid-size will do for the journey from airport to condo or if we really need to go with a standard (my hubby's preference). We would put suitcases in back seat between the kids who are both small. The only time we'll have lots of luggage is to and from the airport. Would like to get the smallest car we really need. We are looking for something similar in size to a Toyota Matrix. Any suggestions? Right now I have a mid-size and a standard booked with Alamo. Thanks.

I would go with smallest/cheapest. The ride from the airport and back is the only time with luggage so for me kids can sit with suitcases on their laps for that short of trip if they had to. We put 7 people with 7 suitcases and 7 carry ons in a mini van and did just fine......crowded but fine. Sometimes though you can find coupons and upgrade to next class of car and get a bigger one no extra money. Next year for us we will most likely have 8 people so will get two of the smallest and cheapest rental cars that we can! The only trouble we have had with this plan is when the plane gets to Orlando in the morning and you can't get into villa till 4 pm and there is zero room to go shopping.....

99% sure I just read on the transportation board that ALAMO has no standard size cars at MCO - You automatically get a full size for standard prices.

It's one of the reasons I am thinking of redeeming my airmiles for Alamo Gift Cards instead of budget.

There is an Alamo employee that posts on the transportation board so its worth checking there.

Just wanted to add that the last 2 times that we rented (National and Budget) we were offered an upgrade from mid-sized car to a mini van or SUV for $5 more/day when we arrived to pick up our rental.

Really curious about the first post: Why on earth are you piling the suitcases in the back seat between your kids? You don't have that many pieces of luggage- most of it should fit in the trunk. How big are those suitcases anyway!!

5 passengers and 2 suitcases. I thought it was odd too thinking that all our luggage would fit in the trunk, but I am used to a hatchback. I think the economy would be adequate likely too.
