Rental Car Return On Embarkation Day - How to do it?

Hi! We (family of 4) are sailing on the Dream in a few weeks and driving up a rental car from south Florida, returning it at Port Canaveral.
Should we return the car before we go to do all the things you do when you arrive at the port (e.g. testing), or keep the car until all that is done and I can then send my husband back to return the car at Avis and take the rental car shuttle back to the port to meet us?
Now, I am thinking I can answer my own question because on the off chance one of us tests positive we would need a car to get out of there....but any advice you guys have about how this works best would be appreciated.

I don't think he'd be allowed to leave after testing, and my understanding is the party must test and then board together. I would have him drop you off with the luggage, you can wait while he returns the rental, then go to the tent for testing. I'm pretty sure I read that's what a couple others have done.

You have to return the car before testing. You could drop passengers off at the terminal, return car, and when the driver gets back all go to the tent together.
