Thinking about renting a car for one night mid stay. If I bypass the front desk at check in, they will be unaware I'll have a car at some point. Do I tell them the day of my rental? I'm willing to pay the one night fee, just wondering how it will work. Any insight is appreciated.

I'm not sure how they are planning to "police" this new policy, but I would definitely stop at the front desk or call them to tell them I have a car parked for the night. My guess is they will want make, model, and license # and you may have to get some kind of parking tag to put on the car. It would be really sad if they tow cars that aren't somehow registered.

I don't know exactly how they are doing it, but they do seem to know who is parking overnight and for how long. My parents and Aunt were there about a month ago with a car. They were there for 7 nights. Well my Dad left with the car for a golf trip with some friends down in Naples and was gone for 3 nights in the middle of the week. They were able to Bypass The Front Desk so never talked to anyone about having a car with them. Checkout day their folio was charged for overnight parking for 4 nights.

Wow they have it figured out pretty quick. Possibly when you come into the resort and scan your magic band at the parking attendant (Security) whatever they want to be called, there is a license plate camera that links the swipe, and overnight they sweep the parking lot to check for matches? Just speculation on my part, but with what you said it could be a possibility!

Just curious - did they also bypass the guard booth and just use their MB at the unmanned gate?

When they 1st arrived guard scanned my Dad's Magic Band. When he returned from Naples my Dad scanned it himself at the unmanned gate.

Wow.

and overnight they sweep the parking lot to check for matches?

But what if you entered just after they came through? Or left for the night just after they came by? That way is too haphazard.

I think they know, from what I heard when you drive thru the gate using MB to open gate they have a record. Gate attendant also takes licence plate, make & model. I assume they forward info to accounting so it shows up on folio at check out.
Fortunately for me my booking was before this, and I’ll only have a rental my arrival day. So I won’t have to worry about them charging me incorrectly.

From all I have read, there is no need to inform them. They are tracking the cars coming in and out, and when that info is paired with your magic band scans are able to tell who is keeping a car there overnight and adding the fee accordingly.
