My first trip without a rental car since we are using Magical Express. On Saturday, I had planned on going over to the Dolphin and renting a car for 1 day so we can get over to the Church near that outlet mall..I think the Church is called Mary, Queen of the Universe...it's near Little Lake Brian.

Anyway..I hate to cut my day at the park short so I can get over to the Dolphin before it closes at 4 PM (The Alamo rental car)....so now I'm thinking about a cab for the 4 of us to get over there and back. Would anybody have any rough idea of what a cab might cost each way? (Boardwalk to church and back)

Thanks,

David

It was in 2003 (so rates may have changed) but my mom and I took a taxi to that church from BWV. It was about $10 - $15 each way and we arranged in advance for the taxi to pick us up after too. It was certainly easier and cheaper than renting a car for a couple of hours.

BTW - I think one of the Orlando taxi web sites has the ability to type in a to - from address and get a rate quote - I can't remember where I found it, but I looked at it back in December when trying to decide if it made sense to rent a car to go from BC to Universal. You might try to google orlando taxis and see if you can find this.

Just did this from the Poly on mother's day - it was $25 each way for a cab.

If you go to the website above, the church is even in the pull-down list of locations to search. Just as an example, I tried from the church to Epcot, and it was $15.75. There was also a transportation phone number given on the church's website (407)828-3036, and a warning DO NOT PAY TAXI IN ADVANCE OF SERVICE.
This summer will be our first trip back to WDW since 2002, when they still had Mass at the Polynesian. It was exotic attending Mass at a Disney hotel, but I understand why they have moved it into the Shrine. There were people fainting in the heat at the Poly, something I haven't seen much at Mass since the early 70's. It was also difficult for the priest, musicians, etc to "take it on the road."
Have a blessed trip.

I was in the same situation in December. I considered renting a car - would have been about the same price as round trip to Shrine ($16/way). But, it was impractical with our plans that Saturday to get to either car center. So, we did the taxi. The only problem was, even though the driver told us her would be back after mass, he never showed up (either that or someone else took our taxi). Anyway, we ended up waiting 20 minutes in the rain for another to show up - very frustrating. So, if its practical, I would definitely rent the car. Otherwise, hope you get a good driver who will come back!

Thanks everyone....glad to see other people have done the TAXI thing before....I think I'm going to shoot for the TAXI...I just hate having to leave a park at 2:30 to try and get to the Alamo counter at the Dolphin before it closes at 4 PM. Also, I won't have to worry getting over there the next morning at 8 AM to drop off the car. We can just head over to the parks early...

I used to go to Mass at Luau Cove at the Polynesian. If it is mass you are looking for and not a chance to see Mary Queen of the Universe Church then I would inquire about the Luau Cove mass. I think they are still having them and you can use Disney transportation. My kids really enjoyed having the mass said in an "outside" venue.

IIRC, the masses at Luau Cove were canceled several years ago by the church.

I agree that Masses are no longer held on Disney property except for Christmas and Easter and those Masses are held in a ballroom in the Contemporary Resort.
Just wanted to tell the original poster that taxis are usually available at Disney resorts. If one is not waiting at your resort the Cast Member outisde will call and get one for you right away. We had no problem getting one last year to get to Mass. The only problem was that I wanted to go to a 5pm Mass and that was held at Holy Family in Orlando. Very nice Church but I had no idea from the posts here on the DIS that is was so far from WDW. The driver had to call his office for directions. I told him we needed a ride back so he waited for us. Next time we will use the MUCH closer Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine.
ps.....if you give the driver a generous tip I am like 99.999999% certain he will wait for you to take you back to WDW.
