I currently have a reservation with Happy Limo for $90 incl. the tip. I am wondering now if if would be cheaper just to rent a car at the airport to drive to the All Stars and then rent a car again on our departure day to drive back to the airport. I heard somewhere that you can rent cars at any of the Disney hotels. Would this work? Has anybody done this before? If I could get a car for about $25 a day then it would be much cheaper to handle my transfers to and from the airport in this manner. By the way, there are 3 adults and 1 child in my party for a September trip.

Any advice?

You might save a little bit, but think of the time you would waste! You'd have to spend time in line to rent the car, schlepp over to the garage and load your luggage (and don't even get me started about off-sirport rental places like Alamo...), if you don't know the area, figure out where youa re going, and avoid the tourists while navigating unfamiliar turf.

Once you get to your hotel, you'd have to drive the car over to National and turn it in, then wait to get a ride back to your hotel. Considering that National is over near the MK, and you're staying at the All Stars, that's 20 minutes each way, plus wait time, so at least an hour to return the car. Same thing with picking it back up. Add in the 15 minutes of paperwork each way, and now you have blown 2 1/2 hours of precious vacation time. Figure out how much the vacation is costing, then divide it by the number of hours you have, and you're better off just paying the car service.

Also, one day rentals are expensive. I'll be suprised if you can find anything under about $30-35 per day, unless you don't rent form National, in which case your plan won't work anyhow. If you need insurance it will be closer to $45-50. So there really isn't any savings happening here, a lot of incovenience, possible frustration, and wasted time.

Oops-

Forgot to add in the gas (plan on $4 for a compact) and tolls (I want to think $3 each way on the Greenway).
