We're thinking about doing Discovery Cove this summer and are looking for a a nice resort (great pool, nice rooms, restaurants, etc). How is the Renaissance? Anyone stayed there? Are there other resorts close to SW that are nicer or is this the best one?

JW Marriott is close, and looks fantastic - on the same property as the Ritz.

Renaissance is the best, and directly across the street.

You can see some pics of it in my TR from a few years ago.

If that's too much money, there is the Hilton Garden next to it, and the Sheraton World Resort on the other side. These two hotels would be an extra 5 minutes of walking, then you could go across the street to the SWF parking lot.

Here's another page I have with some pictures of the hotels, scroll down to the bottom.

Depends on your purpose. The renaissance is super convenient. We planned our last trip around several DC days. So Renaisannce was extremely convenient. It is literally right across the street from SW and they will take youi to and from DC with a moments notice. No shuttles... you just go down stairs to the concierge stand and they get a car and take you. When you need to be picked up you just call and they will coem and get you in under 5 minutes. We would just walk out the front door and go across the street to SW. Unless you are too old for a brief walk or are in too bad of shape to walk across the street, I would say this is the most convenient if you want to do a DC & SW vacation. The facility is more then adequate. Nice big pool, kids playground, game room, concierge, a deli food stand, a moderate level restaurant, and a nicer upscale restaurant.... a nice piano lounge also.

We did Discovery Cove two years ago. When we booked, they gave us a discount code for the Renaissance. We got a club level room with a small balcony overlooking the atrium for less than $200 a night. We loved it. Very convenient, and the kids loved all the snacks and breakfast items in the club level lounge. As you might have heard, part of the Discovery Cove admission includes 7 days at Seaworld, so being right across the street is a big bonus.
