Remy BG at 1 PM - do you have to still be in EPCOT?

I searched first but couldn't find an answer to my question.

I thought that if you entered EPCOT earlier in the day, you could still try for a 1PM BG for Remy, even if you weren't actually in the park at 1 PM. For example, if you went to Yacht/Beach/Boardwalk for lunch, or went back to your hotel for a break.

The WDW website indicates the following:
"The virtual queue will reopen daily at 1:00 PM for anyone inside the applicable park who wasn’t already able to join a boarding group earlier in the day. You must be inside the applicable park to access this second virtual queue opportunity, and access to a boarding group is subject to availability and not guaranteed."

But despite this, I thought I read on DISboards that people were able to get a BG even if they left EPCOT before 1 PM. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

From everything I've read, yes you have to be in the park at 1. However, BG's have been known to still be available after 2 pm. Now, will you still get on the ride before the park closes? It varies.

No, you do not have to be physically in the park at 1pm, as long as you have entered Epcot before then. The same was true for ROTR at DHS - I once got a 1pm BG from an off-site hotel room (on the hotel wi-fi).

(Honestly - they don't have a reliable way to determine if someone has left a specific park.)

Seriously, how many people are going to have a park pass for EPCOT and not try for a 7 am BG?
This is just a really stupid argument.
Yes, you are correct that you could have a park pass for EPCOT, not try for a 7 am BG for REMY,, tap in, leave the park and try for a 1 pm BG from your resort room. but is teh average guest going to do that? Doubtful.

Easy there... Boarding groups are going within seconds of being released at 7 again. Which means anything could happen and many people who try at 7 could be left out. So they're left to try at 1. Maybe they're an onsite guest who went for early entry and wanted to be back at their pool before 1. It really doesn't matter. Does it happen a lot, probably not. We're just saying the option is there as the OP was asking.
