My dog has a tick about 1 inch under his eye. He is not very keen on sharp tools like tweezers coming towards his eye.;) Is there any other way to get this thing to let go, or do I have to make him suffer?

Yes, he has tick stuff on, but the ticks are really bad and seem to find places like this anyway.

If you have an old CC or something similar like a store courtesy card, you can cut a v shaped slit in it, then a hole a little smaller than a pea at the end of the slit. Put the hole over the tick and slide it to remove.

You are basically making one of these

You can also grab it with your fingernails and pull (but be sure to wash thoroughly before and after).

Sometimes it's easier to approach a dog's face with an implement from behind and above, rather than coming "straight on" towards them.

get a tick puller ... simple plastic tool, available from your vet or probably the box stores (Jenn's mom is a Vet Tech so we got our puller from her).

it's not sharp or anything like that ... but does a great job taking ticks off the dogs.

I am definitely going to try that! I am a little skeeved by using my bare hands but that sucker:laughing: has to come off!

I used to be weirded out about ticks until I moved to the country...now I just wank them off.

DD16 will take them off the dogs...but DD18 will freak out and bring the dog to me to take off the tick!

Interesting, but I've not run into this ever. 90% of the time? Maybe that vet needs to clarify? Are these blind people? Are the elderly? Don't mean to be sarcastic, but come on it's not hard to tell it's a tick.

That's because 100% of the people who KNOW it's a tick don't call the vet! :rotfl:

We live in a tick-friendly area. I have removed tons of ticks from dogs, cats, children, and myself! I just do it with my hands.

I am not talking about the article, but the credit card thing near the eye.

We have soooo many ticks here. Bleech....

WE have covered the tick in vasilene (sp?). A good goopy amount, the tick can't breath and will start to back out.

Good Luck!

The company that fertelizes our lawn puts down a flea a tick chemical. Once they do this, we don't see ticks until the end of summer. Tickets are abundant until they do this.

For me, it's the old fashion way. However, that can be a pain with the little tinny suckers. I wonder how the credit card method would work with the little tiny ones. Not deer tickets, just small.

Well I would only use that method if it was near the eye. And yes, the small ones, the seed ticks are what we have here. Gross, gross, gross to see 100 ticks crawling off of your dogs leg....ick.

By now you should have it off. But in the future, take a cotton ball and soak it with liquid soap. But the cotton ball over the tick, and wait a few minutes. The tick will come off in the cotton ball.:thumbsup2

We had on rubber gloves, the first time. LOL!

You should have seen us, that time. We had a psuedo surgical station, on our living room floor. Rubber Gloves, a Hallogen light aimed at him, a white towel on the floor, a baggie (to immediately drop the tick into), and the internet open to that video. :rotfl::rotfl:
