remote for Digital Rebel...is there a trick?

I bought a remote for my Rebel but I can't seem to get it to work...yes, I read the instructions! Is there a trick to this that I'm not getting?

I assume you talking about the wireless remote?

Did you set the camera to the "timer/remote" setting using this button?

You also have to be in front of the camera to use the wireless remote or at least the remote has to be in front of the camera.

mine is the manual( not ir) and you just plug it in the side, push the little thing around the button kind of down and forward to lock it ( like if you want a really long exposure) or push the button like a shutter button if not ( you don't do the timer remote thing)
