My son 11 wants one of those Air Hogs. I don't think they look very sturdy. He wants a remote control car. I don't want one that has the wires attached to the car. I just don't know what is a good deal?? It seems like the decent ones are exspensive. Thanks.

We have the Air Hog car and I would never buy one again. It claims it can go on any flat surface, and that is true, the key word being completely FLAT -- not a little bit of texture. The boys can only drive them on doors otherwise they fall to the ground. They drive fine on the linoleum. I bought the Air Hog helicopter at Walmart on BF for their Christmas gift, so hopefully they will get more use out of that. Other than that, I don't have any experience with R/C controls. We have had r/c snowmobiles made by New Bright which were complete JUNK! I told myself I would never buy another New Bright model again.

We have the airhog laser gun with a car that chases the laser. My son is a little young for it, but DH has used it on the walls and the ceiling and it seems to work ok. Not as good as I hoped, but it provides some entertainment. Not worth the $27 we paid for it at Walmart.

I know they have a good selection of R/C cars at Target. I'm sure they will have some deals on them before Christmas.

If you want your child to have loads of fun and to get in the air instead of on the ground, get an AirHogs AeroAce airplane. You can't have any wind outside, but on a calm summer evening, he can fly it very easy.

I started out in the RC flying hobby with an AirHogs AeroAce plane. The hobby folks went nuts over this little airplane. It flies and it flies fantastic. You can fly it into the house, into the cars, into the younger sibblings and there will be no damage to the plane or to whatever they crash into.

I bought mine in 2005 and then bought an actual hobby grade "beginner" airplane. After crashing the hobby airlpane a few years ago once too many times, I still have my 2 AirHogs airplanes and still fly them.

My wife said to me one night after looking out the window at me, "You have this stupid looking grin on your face out there, what are you doing with the plane?" Every evening, I would toss the plane up to fly and after a few minutes, I had about 20 barn swallows arrive from somewhere (I live in the country) and would swoop and fly all around the plane. It was crazy.

The mention of the Airhogs helicopter made me think of the plane. I have a helicopter as well and it is an indoor toy only (absolutely no wind and the IR signal won't reach the heli outdoors.) It would not be nearly as fun for a child because they are extremely difficult to fly. I can only make about 2 circuits around the large basement before it crashes to the ground (no damage though, just like the planes.)

We have had almost every Air Hog toy and the only one that held up for longer than a day is the small helicopters. I don't even buy the other ones unless they are verrrry, verrry cheap.

The only Air Hogs we have are the helicopters and those have ben a lot of fun for the kids, but we've never tried flying them outdoors. We've got 10' ceilings at home and my inlaws have cathedral ceilings, so that's where they get flown.

As far as RC cars, there's a HUGE price range. I just picked up a couple of fairly basic ones for $15 ea (regularly $31) on Black Friday, but I'm buying for younger kids so I was just looking for something with both forward and reverse, and which comes with its own recharageable battery pack so they won't be burning through tons of batteries. DS has a nice all-terrain truck that I paid $50 for on clearance at Radio Shack (regularly $80), and there are much more expensive out there. For an 11yo, I'd look for something middle-of-the-road in price that can handle a good variety of terrain so he can run it outdoors.

I need 2 of the Air Hogs Laser Micro Zero Gravity Car...the cheapest I found was $29.99 @ Kmart and Target. My Walmart does not have any in stock. TRU has them for $39.99 but they will price match.

They actually had air hog stuff at Big lots. Can't remember what kinds, it's probably the older styles. I ended up going with Radio Shack. There airplane looked sturdier and got decent reviews.

My son is getting a micro remote control Mario Kart Yoshi car. Its about matchbox car sized, but r/c....very cute...They have them at Target for $20 and some similar non-nintendo styles for $15....I may pick one up for my nephew too and he;s 19..lol....
