Hey - I haven't seen any comments about this one the DL board, yet sooo....

for all of you who will be visiting/staying at DL on Sunday, 8/31 and may not know it, there is a HUGE Half Marathon that starts and ends at DL that morning and runs through the streets of Anaheim down to Angels Stadium and back. This causes some traffice issues in the local area - roads are blocked and DTD is kind of a mess to get from the DLH to the parks. The DLH is the staging area and the finish line for the race, which ends with a run straight through the entry plaza and right down the length of DTD.

If you are leaving for the airport that morning, I would allow additional time for transportation to get in and out of the resort area!

If you can get up early enough - for the 6:00 start, they start the race on the road that runs between PP and the GCH, right before where the monorail crosses over. It's trult a sight to see! They pull out the monorail and there are characters hanging out the windows! Since the race goes along the road, it's best to use the DTD bridge to access the parks for rope drop. Either that or take the monorail directly into DL after about 9:30-10am park opening to -10:00am or until you see that DTD is clearing up, when the runners start arriving back at DTD.

Note - edited to reflect times as noted by my esteemed colleague crashbb

The end of the race is just as exciting, as people line DTD to cheer everyone on. It really gives the tired runners a boost of energy to see us all there! The race is usually over by noon - 1pm, so keep that in mind! Make sure to congratulate everyone you see that is wearing a medal! It's very heartwarming!

The race start is 6am.

Average run time is probably about 2hr 15min to 2hr 30min, so the bulk of the race should be well over by about 8:30am. I think that the cut-off time is either 3hr or 3hr 30min, so everyone should be off of the course by 9am or 9:30am.

Boy, I sure thought it went longer than that! Thanks for the correction!:thumbsup2 If I recall, though, the ropes and such took a while to come down and the crowds were still pretty heavy through DTD afterwards last year, weren't they? I remember it being really hot and there were a lot of people!

I'll be at the DLR that weekend, though not for the race. I anticipate the race will impact crowds, so I'm trying to get an idea of what it might to get the traffic trying to get to the Mickey & Friends lot around park opening. Can anybody help?

We happened to be there last year for the marathon (100+degrees) and there were no issues getting around. We actually wacthed the runners cross. The organizers really have it all together for this event. We too thought some extra planning would be needed while this was going on, but we made it over for normal opening hours and had a great time talking with the participants. Just thought I'd add our experiance. I'll be there this year as well and look forward to seeing them start and finish. We stayed at DLH last year and this year at PP. CHEERS!!!:cool1:
