Remind me how it works to add-on on a cruise?

Thinking of adding on when we cruise in Nov....

What $ do we need to lay out at the time? I'm thinking $500 for some reason?

I can't remember now and want to make sure we have enough $ on hand if we decide to do it! :thumbsup2:goodvibes

In April 2011 while on the Disney Dream we added on. We added the VWL at 200 points. We didn't have to pay out anything. They asked us which UY we wanted and gave us the papers to sign.

It was interesting though. We didn't want AKL which is what they were pushing at the time. We wanted VWL. They said it had been sold out for years and there aren't any points there. if there were and available, the contracts on them would end in 205x. We didn't care and asked them to check. They came back with the 200 we wanted and the UY. $100 per point.

Don't be afraid to ask for what you want. The contract on some points on each resort are available because Disney has done ROFR on resale points. The contract is shorter but worth it for us.

There have been a few reports that you don't get a deal if purchasing while on the cruise. Other reports are that they are only selling their active resorts on the cruise and that they will refer you to your guide to be added to the older resort waitlist.

Seems like it changes like the wind.

Yeah, that's exactly what we plan on doing....but last time we cruised, they said we had to give them a deposit....hmmm. We were going to finance through DVC like our other contracts, maybe that's why?

bumping this as I'm looking for info on the deposit I remember them asking us for last cruise (which we didn't have at the time)....

I think they typically want you to put down a 10% deposit. So, that is probably what I would go with..

We added on two weeks ago while onboard. True, Disney didn't use to offer much, if any, discount on add on points while on the ship but I stopped by the desk and asked for an appointment. Anne gave us the same talk about how it could be 6 months or longer, ... We asked for HHI since at the time they were the cheapest to buy into, $98 per, and that night we were told they were available.

It is cheaper by 50% almost to buy resale but we wanted points we could cruise on and to do that you have to buy them through Disney.

We could put down 10% or twenty and it went on the credit card we had on file for our onboard charges. The interest rate was a little better with 20% down but I will have it paid off before end of the loan.

I forgot to request a DEC UY but when I talked to Anne the next day she said they always give the same UY you already have.

I got 2013 and 2014 points.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

FYI - The points that you receive when buying direct will depend on your UY and when you buy.

In the above post the owner is currently in her December 2013 UY so she received 2013 points. If she had a April UY, she would have received 2014 points. Sometimes Disney makes it sound like they are giving you extra points but in reality they are not.

It doesn't matter if you buy on land or sea, you will always get the same point allocation.

Thanks disneynutz! I should have really stressed I had a DEC UY! Yep Disney doesn't give you anything any more. Wish it was in the old days where we got free APs! I can dream......
