Remembrance day in wdw

We'll be down at WDW celebrating my bday that week.

Does anyone know if there are any services or recognition in the parks / on property? maybe at Canada or the UK in Epcot that day? Shades of Green?

I'd like to pay my respects to those who served and fell.

I was there on November 11th last year (my birthday - taking advantage of the free entrance on my birthday) and went looking for something but didn't find anything. I looked at the Canadian pavilion and sadly there was nothing acknowledging the day.

We will be at Epcot for Remembrance Day - I was hoping they would have a ceremony to honor our heros too. Well, I guess that we can create our own way to show respect and honor to those who have given so much for our great country.

I did make sure I wore a Canadian-style poppy (they're very different - and much nicer if I do say so - than the American poppies) that day and have a few people comment on it. That was my own personal remembrance.

We have been on cruises based out of the US on several occasions for Nov. 11. We wear our poppies on Nov. 11. From what we have seen, it seems that Americans do not observe the day the same way we do.

From what ccudmore says, it appears that the pavilions in Epcot do not decorate, or formally observe the day either--my best guess would be that the pavilions have to follow WDW policy (?) concerning decorations.

I am sure the limited events is due in part to the fact that November 11 is Veterans Day in the US. They tend to focus more on living war veterans at that time, so the type of observances we see in Canada at that time are different. Many places do have parades and events for those veterans.

Memorial Day in May is more like our Remembrance Day with events to remember those who have fallen, but in my observation, it has become more of a commericial shopping day/long weekend.

We were also at EPCOT last year on Remembrance Day. We went to World Showcase at 11:00 and took our poppies off at the Canadian Pavilion. It was only a small gesture, but we wanted our kids to make sure they "remembered" even though we were on holiday, it was a significant day.
