Remember what was crossing my driveway

.......well this time I got one. About an 18 inch snake crossing the driveway Wednesday when we came home and I didn't let this one get away. Ran over that sucker about 5 times. It was dark so we didn't get out and look at it. DS and I stopped to look at it yesterday when we came home from school to see what kind it was but I did such a good job, it doesn't even resemble a snake anymore.

Apologies to all the snake lovers out there but most of the ones we see in our neck of the woods are the poisonous kind and with two little kids I get rid of as many as I can.

Good for you!! As a fellow TN resident--I appreciate that you're doing your part to rid the state of these evil creatures. I HATE snakes.

I live in Tenn too and I check and see what kind it is first. Snakes do too much good ridding the area of rats and other varmits that I don't like to kill them.
But with kids, I can understand your fears.

Earlier in the summer one got away, it was about 3-1/2 ft long and it was a timber rattler......this one was in the same location as the first (they were probably relatives). Did you know that rattlers go back to the same den year after year, some dens can have more than 75 snakes in them. It was to dark to tell what kind this one was. One year we killed one (rattler) right at our back steps, it was so fat that when DH chopped it with the hoe, it didn't go all the way through and I had to hold the hoe down on it while he went to get the shovel. It had 13 rattles and a button.

Don't blame you for killing the snake. My FIL has rattlers in his area and he also runs over them. I am afraid to go walking there at night because of the rattlers. they come up and hide under the back deck. Yuck.
