Releasing a room-- how long before appearing on the reservation site?

Hi everyone-- was just curious-- when a member cancels/releases a room, how long does it take before it appears on the reservation website for someone else to book it? 10minutes? 30minutes? Hours?

So let's say I cancel my reservation. I let my friend know bc they would like that same room during the same time period. How long after I cancel my reservation does it appear so that another member can book it??

This actually isn't a rhetorical ;(.

It may never show up. Someone may have that room waitlisted and it could go to them instead of inventory.

The waitlist isn't automated. It should show up immediately, or within 60 seconds.

I've seen this happen too. I recently cancelled a reservation and checked several times and it never showed up. I'm guessing the waitlist grabbed it. However, I've also cancelled and checked and saw it there. I didn't think waitlist was automatic, but it appeared to grab cancellations if the timing is right.

If it doesn't appear instantly then chances are it has been held for the wait list and won't appear. Although the wait list isn't automatic MS do say that they hold cancelled rooms until the wait list has run before releasing them. No idea if that is true or not but it is what they say. So you will either see it straight away or not at all.

I don't think it's the waitlist, but possibly an over-booking situation. We know DVC doesn't overbook, but if rooms are pulled out of service for maintenance, they may have more rooms booked than will be available, so cancelled rooms may not show up. With the waitlist experiences documented here, it really seems unlikely that the waitlist is picking anything up immediately.

I recently cancelled a BWV standard studio for the first week in December and it never showed up. My guess with this one is that Disney held it because of the renovations going on. But that's just a guess.
OP- its a gamble. I did just what you were asking about back in 2013 for a November BWV studio during Food&Wine marathon. Luckily for us it worked. But there was a lot of nail biting during the 20 minutes it took to show up.
Good luck

Same thing, just last month I released a BWV studio standard for Oct. 30 (Friday) night. I wanted to see how long it would last, but as soon as I did the RAT, it wasn't there. I checked a few more times and it never showed up.

Well change of plans now. I was checking the DVC site to see if the poly opened up for the extra day we needed and it did not, but a Grand Villa at BLT opened up for the entire week that we are going. So of course we switched out! We have never stayed at a monorail resort now we get to bring the entire family to BLT in a Grand Villa. We still have the issue of the BIL coming in early on that Monday, but we will figure out something.
