Relaxing Fantasy - Western - Adult Only Concierge Cruise - 8/30 to 9/6 - Complete10/5

We've never spent time in O'Gills and it really looks like we should!

What's in a 'Shipbuilder's Wife' by the way? it looks like a citrus/lemon drink which I would love

We liked it as its a very low key bar with great drinks! It wasn't too busy in there so the service was attentive.

A Shipbuilder's Wife is Absolut pear, limoncello, grappa, lemon juice, agave nectar

Relaxing in Jamaica

As we actually went to bed at a decent time (like before 11PM), we were up early prior to our docking at Falmouth, Jamaica. We were able to watch us pull into the dock and see the full sunrise for the day.

I really enjoy the Concierge Sundeck

2mwMgpq.jpg

We met for our excursion at 7:45AM in D Lounge and checked in. It wasn’t long until we were led off the boat and through the port to a bus to the Great Hope Plantation House as we were going to enjoy the Chukka Jungle River Tubing Safari.

This excursion was more leisure than I was expecting it to be as the tubes are tied together in groups of 10 or more as the guides tell you about the history of the river and Jamaica’s stories. It was nice but not sure I would do it again as we would rather do something that is more active. The other thing about doing an event at the Great Hope Plantation is that they will try to get you to sign up for some of their other activity options as there is constant returns to the port until its time to head back to the boat for all aboard.

We took the first bus back that we could after the end of our tubing experience and shopped in the port. We bought an Alex & Ani Bracelet, some Jamaican Rum, and Jerk Sauce. We were back on the boat before noon!

We dropped our stuff off in the room & then headed to lunch.

I wasn’t so hungry

At 1PM, O’Gills was hosting Giant Jenga! We were only people to show up so we had fun playing by ourselves. We actually got to the point that we couldn’t go any higher as there were no more safe moods to make so we declared ourselves as having beat the game! I guess this is what happens when its only 2 of you playing and you both play carefully.

7txIAaU.jpg

On our way back to the room, we got one of the drinks of the day, Sunken Treasure as its one of my husband’s favorite mixed drinks.

lG46HiP.jpg

This afternoon, I went to the movies by myself to see A Hundred Foot Journey as my husband was going to relax between the concierge lounge, gym, & the room. I took the refillable popcorn container that we had picked up on Night 3.

jsBbJQL.jpg

Popcorn & Wine!

I really enjoyed the movie and the theater had a lot more people in it than I had thought would be seeing it on a port day.

An Evening With The Little Chef

Back in our room, we got ready for our meal this evening. During our last cruise, we felt Pirate Night had the weakest menu of the all the choices so we decided that on that evening, we would eat dinner in Remy instead. This would be our 3rd time having dinner in Remy & each time has been better than the last!

As we were getting ready, the ship prepared for its sail away from the dock.

kMfbr1B.jpg

I1Q3vxr.jpg

Our meal was at 6:00PM & we were immediately seated upon the restaurant opening for evening service. We were placed at a two top next to the window, where we were going to end up with some entertainment from the table next to us as we very shortly discovered.

SJYo1Z5.jpg

After our waiter introduced himself, we were presented with the first amuse bouche, flash fried tomato soup. along with the presentation of our signature drink, the Colette. We love these two options! I love how much flavor they get into such a small square of food & you can’t go wrong with Champagne Vodka Cocktails!

g1Ub4hJ.jpg

We were pretty basic with our bread selections this time around & just stuck with having the french baguettes as there are few things better than a fresh out of the oven baguette.

s4esO1z.jpg

Baguette

As we were enjoying these, our waiter went over the menu along with having a visit by the Sommelier where we selected a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to split instead of going with a wine pairing as it was cheaper overall.

We were then presented with our 2nd amuse bouche which was a Norwegian Lobster dish that is really good. I find Langoustines to be less sweet than normal lobsters.

F8ZhJFv.jpg

Langoustine

For our actual meals, my husband went with the Saveur Menu where as I pieced together a menu among some of the different menus.

We both started with the same first course, Tourteau. The king crab was wrapped in a cabbage leaf.

v9MXckt.jpg

Tourteau

As we were getting first course selection, we were started to get really annoyed at the table next to us. It was very obvious this was their first time at a restaurant of this caliber as it seemed they didn’t know quite how to act. The lady spoke so loud that it was as if she was talking to us. At first it was funny but it quickly got very annoying.

My husband and I had different dishes for the next two courses. While my husband enjoyed a polenta dish with a chorizo foam, I enjoyed a scallop that was covered with Japanese Rice that was amazing!

8lyD9uO.jpg

For our next course, my husband had a cod dish while I enjoyed a wagyu beef carpaccio dish.
My husband did enjoy his fish. My beef was so thinly sliced that it melted as soon as it was in my mouth.

Wagyu Beef Carpaccio

We had the same dish for our next course, the Wagyu Beef Tenderloin. This was easily the best steak we’ve ever had & both of us have had wagyu before both at Remy, V&A, and some other restaurants. However this was prepared this time around was splendid! I enjoyed my steak rare while my husband had medium rare. This is the type of beef you would never want cooked higher than that temperature.

I4EF2D3.jpg

Boeuf de Wagyu

The next course for the evening was the amazing cheese cart! We passed on the blue cheese selections but we got a little bit of all the other cheeses to share among each other.

0niEILj.jpg

rXyl6BJ.jpg

My husband really enjoyed the sheep and the cheddar while I really loved the goat & the various aged soft cheeses. The accompaniments worked out really well.

For dessert, my husband had the dessert selection from his Saveur menu. It was a chocolate apricot dish that was just small enough to finish such a long dinner. My dish was a salted caramel baked mousse.

GUWosRb.jpg

At the end of every Remy meal, they serve one more course after the end of dessert. There are various candies that range from strawberry marshmallows, nougats, chocolate, small cakes and lollipops. We took the lollipops with us and enjoyed the ones we knew wouldn’t keep.

BjTDUdP.jpg

SWAWRff.jpg

As you are leaving, they give a box of chocolates along with a rose for the lady. Sadly, we never ate the chocolates but I’m sure they were great as everything else was.

AK5tFI7.jpg

Our meal was great here! It was the best meal we’ve had there to date!

We headed back to our room, saw our towel animal & went to bed as we both were stuffed and not needing anymore drinks tonight.

Firstly, thanks for the info on the Shipbuilder's Wife cocktail - yum! This is right in my boat-house!
I will be ordering one for certain :-)
Ah Remy, what an incredible restaurant. They just don't miss a beat in there

Remy looks so fantastic! I can't wait to try it on the Dream in April! Too bad about the annoying people next to you.

I've never had Wagyu tenderloin, but we love the tomohawk rib eye steak that they have at Del Frisco's. Someday we'll have the tenderloin, maybe on the Dream.

They are wonderful & only $5.95 too!

Remy is amazing. I'm glad they keep getting better each time we go as well as they probably learn better ways to be creative on a cruise ship.

Yes! You will love it in April, especially as someone who really enjoys Club 33 & 1901.

I've never been to Del Frisco's but that steak does sound good!

More Visits With The Little Chef & Trivia

When we woke up this morning, we headed for breakfast early around 7:30AM at Cabanas.

My Plate

After breakfast, my husband & I split up. He was heading to the gym & then to the late morning showing of Guardians of the Galaxy 3D. I was headed upstairs to read until it was time for my spa appointment & then Remy Brunch. I was alone on the sundeck for concierge & was able to get a good portion of my book read.

hlwGl3f.jpg

Alone on the Concierge Sundeck

At 9:00AM, I headed to Senses Spa for my facial treatment.

JeBmbTy.jpg

The treatment was ok. This lady was really too focused on trying to upsell me on my facial or products. No thank you on $500 or more on products! I think next cruise, I’m going to skip getting a facial done.

I headed back to the room to shower & get ready for Remy Brunch. My brunch time was for 11:30AM and was seated at the booth overlooking the ocean after our welcome glass of champagne when we were brought in & the menu was explained to the group attending the brunch. I also had the same server as the evening before.

xDaKC6F.jpg

n1fILbk.jpg

I elected to do the champagne pairings with the meal as it is a champagne brunch after all. I was presented with a plate of the truffle brioche. Every course of this meal was as great as the dinner the night before. The service was as top notch as well.

After brunch, I returned to the room. My husband was back as well as he had eaten his lunch on deck, having a hamburger & chicken fingers & ice cream.

There were two trivia activities going on this afternoon that we would be going to. The first was in our favorite place of this cruise, O’Gills. We sat at the bar & got our usual drinks of a Strongbow for my husband & a Shipbuilder’s Wife for me. The Know It All Trivia started with Tisa as the host but it really was hard. We failed badly at it!

itZ5PZN.jpg

Our usual bartender had his break & the replacement bartender just couldn’t make my drink the same way as he had entirely too much grappa in it so it felt unbalanced.

The next trivia was in La Piazza for Know Your Disney Tunes - Round 2. This one went a lot better but we didn’t win as someone in the audience apparently knew every single answer. I least I knew about 75% of them.

5HmwWep.jpg

After trivia, we headed back upstairs to the sundeck for concierge to read until it was the special afternoon soiree that concierge hosts on the 2nd sea day where they have some afternoon treats along with a visit from a Disney character.

LJVWSc3.jpg

It was extremely windy on deck so the soiree happened in the lounge rather than the sundeck. They had Minnie visit us & all the children able to get a picture.

cQgEp57.jpg

We headed back to the room to relax until it was time for dinner.

Semi-Formal & Night Life

We headed to the Semi-Formal at Royal Court.

I went with the aged prosciutto for my appetizer while my husband had the garlic & herb sauteed shrimp. These were excellent light choices.

We both had the same choice for our salad course as it was nice and light.

My husband went with the lobster tail while I went with the Pasta Dish that I think I’ve had with every Captain’s Gala menu on all 3 of my 7 Night cruises. Something about that cheddar cheese sauce pasta is awesome.

For dessert, my husband had the chocolate lava cake where he felt like its super overdone. He’s pretty much over lava cakes & souffles in general at this point. I had the banana foster sundae which was great with the amount of banana to ice cream ratio.

We headed up to deck 11 to get some more ice cream as it is vacation.

Around 8:30PM, we headed to O’Gills where Thursday Night Football was playing. We each got a drink & I played on my phone as I really don’t like Football.

At 9:30PM, I headed to The Tube for the nightly entertainment as Shaun headed back to the room to watch the game there as he didn’t feel up to the nightly shows. The first was another group game called Majority Rules or something like that. You had to determine what the majority would answer for the various questions. Next was a really bad comedy act that lasted 30 minutes that I only stayed around for because I wanted to watch the 2nd Match Your Mate of the cruise. It was just as funny this time around even with the different questions!

After this was over, I headed to bed as we would be up early for Castaway Cay.

Why Do I Run For Fun?

We woke up around 7AM and looked out on our balcony to see Castaway Cay in front of us as we were going to begin turning around and backing up into port.

My Remy Rose was beginning to open more

I could tell I was already going to be dehydrated when I woke up this morning so I attempted to chug about 2 bottles of water prior to leaving the room this morning. We also split a water while we were waiting to leave the ship. Before 8AM, we began heading to The Tube to check in for the Castaway Cay 5K.

S5So0S6.jpg

Once we were all cleared for port, we were led off the ship shortly after 8:30AM to begin our walk to the start which is by the She Sells See Shells at the 2nd main area of Castaway Cay. This was a long walk! You could look at it two ways as a really long warm up or an additional free 2k!

Ready To Run

After the race started, my husband & I split up as he was going to end up going faster than me.

Turn Around Point!

ZKJcrM0.jpg

Loop #2 Around The Bike Path

My husband finished in about 35 minutes, which is really slow for him. I finished in 50 minutes which is slow for me as well. This 5K was hot and having had as much to eat and drink the 6 days before this, it made for a miserable race. We did finish at least!

THV4MO5.jpg

We headed back to the ship to clean up as we both were grossly sweaty. After our showers, we were headed to Serenity Bay but I got a picture with Olaf first!

1399dBw.jpg

Our first stop once getting to Serenity Bay was to get a drink from the bar. I got the rum runner while my husband had the Pina Colada.

4iMMe6O.jpg
ufSjzyL.jpg

Hydrated ;) we went into the ocean for about an hour or so to swim and cool off from the heat outside. Once we felt our bodies getting warm, we also knew we were starving as we hadn’t had anything to eat yet today. We went to the buffet at the adult beach where there was a decent line to wait in until we were able to get food.

vHQIkIF.jpg

It was just ok. After lunch, we headed back to the ship.

When we got back to the ship, we headed up to the Satellite Falls to relax in the water & get the sand off before we headed to the room. We cleaned up and decided to watch Hunchback of Notre Dame on demand until it was time to get ready for our last tasting + dinner.

Love your report. Looking at your pics were there 2 tv's in your room? One over at the desk area in front of the sofa and perhaps one in front of the bed?

Thank you for reading along!

Yes, my room has two tvs. One in front of the bed and the small one in the tv area. We had that both times in our Cat Vs.

Awesome...As we are traveling in that cat in May with our daughter and her boyfriend so it will be nice to know that we can have different shows on.

Yes you can but they are really close together - so it may have to be need to be on CC for one of them or have it be something you don't have to listen to. We kept one of the tvs on the ship cam while we were watching the other one usually.

Our Final Night

At 4:00PM we had our final tasting, Beer, in our favorite place - O’Gills. It was also hosted by our favorite bartender, Sam. The 5 beers we tried were the same as the one on taps + 1 bottled beer. It was O’Gills, Strongbow, Stella, Blue Moon & Murphy’s.

Post Tasting

After the tasting, we still hung out in O’Gills until it was time for dinner. We each had another Strongbow.

Right at 5:30PM, we headed downstairs to Animator’s Palette for our final dinner. Dinner started with coloring. We only had black, purple and blue markers to color with.

Dinner Menu

We had arranged with our main server (as our head server was absolutely useless) to get an additional appetizer for this meal as we knew for the Animation Dinner, they have set preplated appetizers and soups as you don’t get to pick what you want. I really wanted the tuna & it was able to happen. Both of the appetizer selections were excellent.

At this point, Mickey came onto the screens to explain what would be happening tonight & he was getting started on working on it.

Mac & Cheese Soup

The soup was interesting. I think I would have rather had the buttered popcorn soup they had 2 years ago. I left most of this behind but my husband did finish his off.
We had the same choice for our main course - Beef Wellington. It was cooked exactly as we requested and was well made.

For dessert, my husband got the dessert he was looking forward to the most this time around!

My husband totally loved it so much he got a second portion. For my 2nd dessert, I just asked for some more of the meringue cookies & I got way more than I thought I would get!

After dinner, we headed back to the room for a little bit to get all packed up before heading to our favorite bar for our last visit for this cruise. We didn’t place our luggage outside of the room as we were planning on doing express walk off in the morning once the ship was cleared.

Once back at O’Gills, we only got one round but left behind a much larger tip as a thank you for the wonderful service during the past week.

Final Shipbuilder’s Wife

Saying goodbye to our favorite staff members, we headed back to the room & watched Tangled On Demand as my husband had never seen it & during some of the Disney trivia he was interested in finally having some of the songs make sense.

Q93bsV3.jpg

After the movie, we went to bed.

I'm sad your trip is almost done! This is has been great and I love all your photos. Do you remember how much the beer tasting was?

Yay! I had lots to catch up on :goodvibes
Ah, Remy Brunch - isn't it just wonderful? I also did the champagne pairing and very much enjoyed myself :thumbsup2
I know what you mean about the walk to the CC5K start line - it's looooong!
I found the best tactic was to run right along the edge of the course as there was a (very small) sliver of shade
I'm probably going to run it twice on our double dip at the end of the month as I loved running it back in June :)

At least after this trip I've already finished two F&W trips! Its always better to end a vacation knowing when your next one will be.

The beer tasting was $15 per person.

Great update! :cool1:

Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, I did use some of the sliver of shade on the edge of the course but it was still a very hot and humid race! We are lucky we get to train close to that. Good luck running it twice!

Home!

We woke up at 6:30AM & grabbed a quick breakfast from the concierge lounge. As we hadn’t placed our luggage outside the night before, we were able to do the express walk off starting at 7:15AM and were able to walk straight off the boat thru customs to our car.

Once in the car, my husband was driving, so I was able to turn my cell phone network on for the first time since the previous Saturday. I actually had a lot less email than I thought I would have!
