Relaxing Fantasy - Western - Adult Only Concierge Cruise - 8/30 to 9/6 - Complete10/5

I took the Mixology class in Feb and it was a lot of fun. We are sailing again on the Dream in November and our group is trying to get enough interest in it, not much so far.

Love your purse!

Looks like a great start to your TR, I can't wait for more!

Thanks for reading along!

I took the Mixology class in Feb and it was a lot of fun. We are sailing again on the Dream in November and our group is trying to get enough interest in it, not much so far.

Love your purse!

Hopefully you get enough interest! At least if you don't, there are always the public classes as well! I think on our cruise there were 3 public classes for mixology in addition to the 2 private ones that were set up through our cruise group. My cruise group was totally pro-alcohol as even some of my FE gifts given were little shots of vodka!

Thank you about the purse compliment! Its actually a laptop bag as I was looking something to carry around my camera in that didn't look like a camera bag & was functional but would keep it safe. Its totally my new park bag as well for our trip in 5 days!

More Night Life

We were looking over Cuba, and headed downstairs to check in for dinner. As it was the Captain’s Reception in the foyer, they were handing out free drinks. It seems since the last Reception I went to there has been some cost cutting efforts. Our choices were a house wine or a bud light. Didn’t it used to be champagne? We both got the beer & headed into Royal Court.

When I finished my beer, I ordered another cocktail as it is vacation right?

oS4T1qk.jpg

Double Crowned - Crown Royal, Chambord, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice, Freshly Squeezed Lime

My husband went with 1 appetizer & it was fine.

mfDrYrL.jpg

Iced Lobster & Jumbo Shrimp

I went with 2 options as I couldn’t decide between them as my server wasn’t going to let us not eat enough as will be evident over the course of this meal. I love duck but I also love fried cheese so I got both of those options for my appetizer!

OSaP35J.jpg

Duck Confit

k5IMPbz.jpg

Breaded & Deep Fried Brie

For the soup course, I went with the onion soup while my husband had the leek & potato soup. No complaints here either!

CA2y9hc.jpg

Onion Soup Gratinee

PsPTjkf.jpg

Potage Parmentier - Leek & Potato Soup

We both went with the same option for our entree with the Filet, but our server brought us out another entree to share because he thought we would like it. I liked the pasta and my husband enjoyed the bits of the lobster throughout.

Chateaubriand Roasted Filet Steak

t7p9Y4U.jpg

Lobster Macaroni

For dessert, I was full but you know the server’s don’t take no for an answer. I went light with a creme brulee whereas my husband went with the short cake. We also had the grand marnier souffle brought to the table as well. We couldn’t finish them all!

After dinner, we headed over to O’Gills to hear the singer & well, get some more drinks (O’Gills for husband, shipbuilder’s wife for me then an irish coffee for me as well)

Once we were finished up our drinks & relaxed, we headed back to the room & saw our towel animal for the evening.

ylIBuVr.jpg

As the event I wanted to do at the Tube didn’t start until about 10PM & it was only about 8:45, we started watching a movie on demand, The Lego Movie, as my husband hasn’t seen it yet but I had, so I wouldn’t mind when I had to leave to head to the Tube as I knew my husband wouldn’t be going out with me this evening.

VR1sH7E.jpg

Around 9:30PM, I headed to the Tube to grab my seat for The Quest. I also took my husband’s beer mug token to get myself a Stella.

rwGYwih.jpg

It wasn’t long until Tisa was starting the game & I joined a team of some others that were seated by me. The Quest is an adult scavenger game where your team has to be up there the quickest to get the most points.

ZLbEisM.jpg

The best thing about the end of The Quest is how they make men show up on stage in women’s shoes & a bra.

TBujIN1.jpg

Our team didn’t win but we had a great time! Afterwards, I went to back to the room for bed.

Best Excursion Ever

We woke up at at 6:30AM & headed straight to the gym for a workout. I headed to the bike for 35 minutes while my husband enjoyed the elliptical and weights. At least at this point, we were still trying to be good on the workouts.

When we went back to the room, we got cleaned up & noticed we were pulling into a foggy looking Cozumel.

lKv1FkP.jpg

We got a quick breakfast in the lounge as they had some nice continental options with croissants and fruit. The other thing that is awesome about concierge is that they encourage you to take some of the evian bottles with you as you leave the boat for the ports. Much better than having to worry about paying for the over priced water bottles they sell on the ship!

Our excursion was meeting at 8:30AM in the D-Lounge where we checked in & waiting to be taken off the boat. We had to sign waivers to attend our Mexican Cuisine Workshop & Tasting as we would be playing with fire!

j9EBoBu.jpg

1IzoSW7.jpg

We were taken by Taxi to Playa Mia Grand Beach Park with our group of about 16 adults. Our teaching chef for the day explained at after we finished cooking & eating, we would have time to enjoy the beach or the water park until it was time to leave around 2:15PM. We were told this is the largest group they have ever had from the Disney Fantasy.

VqBLoNa.jpg

Playa Mia Set Up

We were led straight to the workshop area & assigned our stations. After a brief introduction & drink orders taken (as all you can drink was included), we were told to put on our hair nets & our chef hats.

OnKaz5h.jpg

EvVZUvI.jpg

It was explained to us that this cooking class would involve no cutting or knives on our part as they wanted us to enjoy it & they didn’t trust the alcohol flowing with sharp objects (But flames are ok?) We were going to cook our 3 course meal backwards starting with dessert. The dessert was caramelized plantains with a Mexican Chocolate Tequila Sauce so we started off with caramelizing our plantains on the burner. After taking the plantains off the pan, we used the same pan to melt the chocolate with heavy cream where the instructor went around adding the tequila for us, I guess so we wouldn’t use too much ;)

VWXpIlC.jpg

We were shown how to decorate our plates with the chocolate sauce and turned them in so we could start cooking our ‘main course’ - grouper w/ a tamarind chili sauce. With a fresh pan, we melted butter this would each have a turn to cook our fish.

HeBBec4.jpg

They kept refilling the drinks too
hUS9BKg.jpg

Dancing about flipping the fish

After cooking the fish, we cooked the vegetables in the same pan then placed them on top of our fish. We then started making our sauce with tamarind concentrate and chili powder and seasoning sauce to season as it reduced. Afterwards, we wrapped our fish in foil so they could finish cooking the fish in the oven for us & decorated our plates again so we would know its ours when we got to eat it after finishing our last course to cook.

A0OB7jY.jpg

We then started cooking our last course - Devil Shrimp Sopas. This was started by us taking our dough & pressing it some in a tortilla press, it was then placed on the griddle to start cooking.

WqerESe.jpg

The instructor kept talking and had us flip the dough when it was ready. At this point, we began cooking our shrimp in a fresh pan and adding the tomato pasta and crema.

MNYFvyX.jpg

ygOXZAa.jpg

While those finished cooking, we had to take our sopa off the griddle & create a wall around it so that it could hold our shrimp. When it was finished cooking, we plated!

bkMKC5M.jpg

6v147Bm.jpg

We were led upstairs while carrying our appetizers ourselves so that we could enjoy our three courses & they refilled our drinks some more.

EXp5Vih.jpg

Yes, I may have been drinking more but at least we had some water

The food was great! We haven’t made it yet but I can really see us making the sopas at home especially living where we do & the easy access to good mexican ingredients. I would make the tamarind sauce again but probably would try it with chicken as I hate cooking fish inside the house. The plantains will be my next party dessert dish!

After our meal was done, we had about 90 minutes to enjoy the beach or the water park. As we didn’t really want to deal with the sand, we opted for the water park & changed into our swimsuits to enjoy the water slide then the pool. It started to rain about 45 minutes in so we changed and looked at the shops at Playa Mai (they weren’t exciting enough to buy anything at) until it was time to head back to port. We were placed on one of the buses that the Playa Mia Grand Beach Day Excursion guests used to get to the park. It was only a short 15 minute drive back to the port!

Overall, I loved this excursion! The instructor was super funny and entertaining while also being informative. The group of adults there all had an interest in cooking and having fun as well. I would recommend any adult only group to do this that enjoys good food & good times!

joQtnJd.jpg

We did some window shopping but upon looking at the liquor prices, we knew we would get better deals on the ship if we chose to purchase some. We walked back to the ship & headed up to the lounge to grab an afternoon snack to split. My husband took all the cake & I ate the eclairs. The other ones were left behind after a bite.

9IsJIWw.jpg

sa9udmL.jpg

My husband wanted to relax in the room & take a nap. I decided to do something I have usually always sworn off on cruise ships & play Bingo. It may have been the drinking causing me to make bad decisions but I went all out with the 48 card device and add on card so $60.

GANQAsw.jpg

Did I win?

Nope. Should have kept the money for something else.

Defeated, I headed back to the room to get ready for our dinner at Palo!

Loving your trip report! Mum and I are on the Fantasy in 5 weeks time and cannot wait. We did that cooking excursion last time and loved it; I had chicken instead of the grouper and it tasted great.
Wendy

Thanks for joining in! I'm glad you also had a great of a time at the cooking excursion. I'm jealous you get to be back on the ship so soon! Good to know that the chicken works out well whenever we decide to try to make it at home!

A Night of Bad Decisions

When I returned from Bingo, we got ready for Palo.

gokHRV5.jpg

My husband mentioned that he wasn’t feeling well & took some seasickness medicine. Shortly before 6PM, we arrived upstairs & hung out in Meridian until it was time for Palo to open.

sBj7lU4.jpg

BQUaT7B.jpg

We were seated at the same table as our last cruise next to the window so we would be able to see the sunset as the evening would go.

vmwsFmC.jpg

When we got our menus for review, I could tell my husband was not feeling well. He didn’t look good in the face & didn’t want anything to drink outside of water. I ended up ordering a ginger ale for me (well really him ;)) which he stole as soon as it came to the table. He was hoping his medicine would kick in soon.

gKMpt8k.jpg
KaW9zK5.jpg

The server presented us with the antipasto cart & we only requested the meats & cheese.

jZvcLyl.jpg

Where my husband didn’t eat a bite except some of the crackers. I loved the balsamic on the parmigiano-reggiano!

We both got the same appetizer:

LF1KBIj.jpg

Fresh Arugula Salad with choice of Palo’s Dressing

This was fresh for me. My husband didn’t eat it. He actually said he needed to get back to the room & told me to just enjoy the meal on my own as he wouldn’t be able to eat anything. He asked if I could bring back something bland whenever I get done. When the server came back to pick up the plates, I told him that my husband would not be returning as he was not feeling well. I could tell by the reaction of the server, this wasn’t something he had dealt with before or often & it became a bit strange for our meal.

The sorbet was served to clean my palette prior to the main course. I love it as it was refreshing.

faLiUe4.jpg

My main course was served.

VPyhGfs.jpg

Beef Tenderloin Palo w/ Barolo Red Wine Sauce

I also had a half order of:

LDIiaHn.jpg

Chianti Braised Beef Ravioli w/ a rich Red Wine Reduction

The raviolis were awesome as they were very rich & only having 2 was enough for me! The steak was cooked exactly as I requested, a perfect medium rare. Their steak wasn’t the best steak I have on the ship but it was still flavorful. At this point, the manager noticed I was also taking pictures & stole my camera from me (after asking permission) Here is what he came back with:

VZ1HJjG.jpg

For dessert, I went with the Palo Signature Souffle.

TYwSlEc.jpg

I do love their souffle especially with the 2 different sauces. They totally do push this as the option over the other desserts though but I’m happy with it!

At the end, the server presented me with the check but I was expecting there to be a charge for both my husband & I as that is what the reservation was for & he was served one of the courses. I was only charge for myself. The manager came back up to me & said that if later on the cruise, we could come back up & get served a souffle on the house since my husband didn’t get a chance to complete his meal. We never did end up taking them up on that deal as my husband felt it would awkward.

When I left Palo, I walked downstairs to Cabanas & was able to get a basket of bread to bring back to the room. I figured it was a safe bland option as if my husband was having seasickness it should work on filling his stomach well. I was also able to get some more bread from the lounge for him. When I was approaching the room, our room steward approached me saying that he thinks my husband placed the “do not disturb” sign on wrong as it said “service please” but when they opened, he was asleep in bed. He was asleep still when I got inside but he ate some of the bread but wanted something else to eat. I remembered that outside the movie theater they had the popcorn cart, so I bought a refillable bucket of popcorn & brought it back upstairs. (Figured we would use it again whenever we went to the movies) This worked wonders! It seems his medicine was finally kicking in along with filling his stomach. Looking back, he was also probably dehydrated from the day as we didn’t really drink enough water during the day compared to how we already do. He eventually felt better.

At 9PM, we headed to O’Gills as there was Monday Night Football he wanted to watch the game. He enjoyed some peanuts while I had a Shipbuilder’s Wife. This is how I enjoyed the football time:

rKvvUrb.png

He left me slightly before it was time for me to move to The Tube for “Ice Breakers” & headed back to bed.

yBoNEZY.jpg

During Icebreakers, Tisa played a fun joke on the couple where she asked the girl to identify the guy in a lineup that was her man but her man wasn’t actually in the line up. She guessed correctly as she couldn’t feel her man’s skin tags on anyone. We were rolling at that!

Afterwards, it was pretty much an adult game of Never Have I Ever. Apparently, I’m more adventurous than many of those going to nightlife on DCL as I made it to the last round where they call you to the stage but well, I think I can say I’m glad I didn’t win ;)

After this, I headed to my Whiskey Tasting, except I first headed to the wrong place at the Cove Cafe so I booked it to Meridian. This whiskey tasting was much better attended than the last one I attended where there were only 2 other people there with me.

ge9aGBb.jpg

5 Initial Tastes

rtg9VAH.jpg

Whiskeys!

This tasting is a lot of fun. You could tell the host, Tea, was very passionate about his whiskeys and scotch. First up was an Irish Whiskey, then a Scotch, a Kentucky Bourbon, a Puerto Rican Naval Rum that is strong, and a higher end Irish Whiskey. Not many people enjoyed the bourbon so I ended up with a few extras at the end, along with many thinking the last whiskey was too strong so I ended up with some more of that. Here is the picture of my aftermath:

l8IO2Vs.jpg

Now when I drink, I get chatty. Other people got chatty too. I think I was chatty until about 1AM talking to this other lady who was in concierge sailing on her DVC points along with a newly wed couple on their honeymoon. I was still tipsy when I ended up walking back to the room where I apparently got to see a dress rehearsal for some new deck show they are working on but I got yelled at for watching too much as it isn’t ‘live’ yet. I think had to play limbo against some robes through the cleaning area as there was no way for me to get back into Deck 11 or Deck 12 Forward without doing so unless I backtracked & went down to Deck 10. I was not going to do so. When I got back to the room, I passed out & my husband didn’t even wake when I got back to the room.

First off, your dress is super cute :)

I am sorry that your husband got sick, especially on Palo night. We have taken two cruises, one on a smaller Carnival boat and one on the Dream. I got sick on the Carnival one and swore we would never cruise again. I am glad I gave the Dream a chance.

We are going to try for the whiskey tasting if it is offered. I am not a big fan of it, but I figured it would be fun. I am glad you had a good time!

Signing on for the rest of the journey! I am considering an adult trip, all our others have been with the grandkids. That is fun in its own way but after trying some other cruise lines, DCL really does have the best entertainment.

Thank you! That dress was a great find I had at Dressbarn!

Yeah, being sick on a boat is never fun. Drinking & not drinking enough water definitely took a toll on him with the seas the way they were.

It lets you know all about different types of Whiskey so you do learn a lot if you aren't a big fan of it & you never know, you may find one you really enjoy. They are all at night either 10PM or 10:30PM.

Thanks for joining in! Adult Trips are really fun but that is the only way we do Disney or DCL as we don't have children. Their entertainment is awesome & I never find myself bored there. We have done Celebrity before & weren't the biggest fans as there wasn't enough for us to enjoy on there outside of the overpriced Martini bar that got a lot of attention from me.

enjoying your trip report so far

Glad you are enjoying it!

Grand Cayman & Italian Cocktails

The alarm went off at 6:30AM & it felt like I didn’t get enough sleep. I may have also been hungover. Per my training plan, I should have done a 58 minute run. There was no way that was going to happen. We started by going to the gym though and I just walked on the treadmill, slowly, to attempt to sweat out the alcohol.

CEVAUZ6.jpg

When we finished, we headed to breakfast @ Cabanas where we had some of the greasy hash browns that are the perfect hangover food and felt a lot better once we got back to the room and showered. We were meeting for our excursion at 10:30AM and still had some time to kill. There was a family friendly activity going on at O’Gills called 3D Crafts.
4qZ3jkv.jpg

lXVepue.jpg

We then headed to D Lounge to check in for our excursion, Reef & Shipwreck Snorkeling. We were in the first group of tenders to head towards the island once we were cleared to get to Grand Cayman.

U3GBiXi.jpg

3DKTwns.jpg

And that is it for photos from Grand Cayman as I don’t have a waterproof camera & I wasn’t risking my cell phone on the snorkel boat. (One girl in our group ended up breaking her phone as her waterproof case wasn’t so waterproof afterall.

The excursion took about 2.5 hours and we got to snorkel around the reefs by the pier along with the shipwreck that was a great story for an engineering horror story. Don’t take a ship built in the 1800s & put the largest newest diesel engines on it and put the engines on full power unless you want the ship to shake apart. It was run aground & then the government sunk it completely in the sea. For the $39 per person this excursion was, it was worth it. As we finished the shipwreck portion, it was starting to rain so we didn’t hang out around Grand Cayman anymore & just headed back to the ship.

When we got back on the ship, we headed straight to Deck 11 to get some lunch as we were starving. The food fit the bill of filling us up!

SfJJh4I.jpg

Once back in the room, we were lazy for the next 2 hours where I watched Lilo & Stitch on demand while my husband watched something on his computer.

At 3:30PM, there was Trivia in O’Gills so I headed there by myself to get a drink & play trivia where I teamed up with another lady who was solo there.

Trivia was running past the allotted time & it was time for me to get to my Italian Cocktail Tasting in La Piazza.

The tasting was pretty much the cocktails from their menu & we got to take a Campari Soda home to enjoy or drink later on the ship, it was up to you. This tasting was a lot of fun as the host really enjoyed his Italian Cocktails but from the comments he made, you could tell he didn’t like being at that bar as it was one of the bars with the least amount of traffic as he knew how many light bulbs are in the carousel. When it finished, I headed towards the lobby to head to dinner.

We are also hoping to continue our training plans on our Fantasy cruise next month. In the past, I thought there was a program limit on the treadmills of 30 minutes. Is the limit 60 minutes now?
Thanks. Looking forward to reading more. You might have convinced us to try whiskey tasting.

Sounds like a great day so far! The Italian cocktail tasting sounds really fun. I much prefer the spirits over the wines. So much more lively. Grand Cayman is one of my favorite ports, too bad it rained on you, but then you got to enjoy more of the ship. Good for you keeping up with at keast part of your training regimen even with keeping up with your drinking too!

Disney uses the Lifecycle Brand of Exercise equipment. The time limit using the manual - timed method is 60 minutes (+ 5 minutes for cooldown). They also have a distance function that you can select a distance up to I think 50 miles which is how I would have gone around the time limit function if I had actually been on the treadmill for longer than an hour. This past weekend when we were at Disney, we were originally going to do 90 minute sessions but we didn't get downstairs quick enough for being able to do that along with getting ready for our Parisian Breakfast in EPCOT.

The whiskey tasting is a lot of fun! You should do it!

It depends on my mood if I like Spirits over Wines more but for the tastings they have on DCL, the spirit ones are a lot more fun than the wine tastings. I enjoyed the champagne one yes, but it was very clinical of a tasting rather than the relaxed nature that we had with the others.

The rain is something we risk with traveling in September so we knew it was a possibility. I've been to Grand Cayman before on my cruise back in 2007 that I did without my husband. With the amount of drinking going on, I had to try to attempt to keep up with training if I didn't want to fall too behind. Its only 11 days until the race now and I so do not feel prepared enough for it! We leave in a week to go back to Disney for that trip.

Ooh, just stumbled across your TR and am loving it!
Shame your husband wasn't feeling great at Palo
Your excursion looked like so much fun!
Can't wait to read about the rest of your cruise :goodvibes

Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you are enjoying it! We lucked out on excursions this trip or we got better at picking the ones that would work well for us. On the Celebrity Cruise in 2010, we did excursions in every port but the only one that was decent was the Haunted Ghost Tour in Key West. The snorkeling one at their private island was meh (as well as my husband losing his original wedding ring there) and the one we did in Nassau was bad as well. We had about a 50% success rate on the excursion through Disney in 2012.

Your report is great! we leave for a disney fantasy cruise in December :cool1:

Glad you are reading! The ships at Christmas look so pretty! Its going to be great!

I Enjoy Trivia

As I headed to Enchanted Garden to meet my husband for dinner, I took a stalker type picture of Tiana as she was out in the atrium.

ATojosz.jpg

Our server took a horrible picture of us and then presented us with the menus for the Pirates & Princess Menu:

I started with another cocktail that I sipped on during the meal.

Golden Slipper

For our meals here, my husband & I ordered the exact same things for appetizer, salad & entree. We loved each of these choices! The quesadilla was different than I was expecting based on the description but I was ok with it be smaller than I thought.

We did get different items for dessert though.

This meal was great! We headed back to the room to drop stuff off and relax until it was time for trivia @ O’Gills.

Cute Frog!

Around 8PM, we headed to O’Gills for a drink and wait until the next round of trivia started. Once those in the bar headed to the 8:15PM seating for dinner, we moved up to the bar.

When trivia started, there was another couple playing the game and that was it. Even without knowing half the answers, we still won!

Flpby5U.jpg

Around 9:30PM, we headed to The Tube for the trivia type game show they had going on called Pop! This was a fun group trivia show where half of the crowd is on one team and the other half on the other. The questions were all pop culture related & the groups could consult overall to try to get the answer. There was only one question it seemed the teams were having some problem with that was related to a John Travolta movie. After the Pop game, it was 80’s Music Trivia where my husband & I with another couple did horrible as well, the 80’s weren’t the music we really listened to.
