It makes me crazy!! I love my mom's relatives, but everytime they come over they talk about the same thing. My other Uncle and how they don't care what he does with his life, but if they don't care why do they talk about it all the time? That and Local politics. Which does involve us all, but seriously it's the same as last month. Just wanted to type it out since I can't scream.

Well technically I don't own any, but I make them. There's a huge storage room at my work where we keep them all.

Since September we've made a frog, a cow, school kids with handpainted patterned clothes, and an entire edwardian show.

Oh, I'm so glad I got to respond to this thread so I don't scream too! I've got this same problem, only it's with my parents. I just don't know what to do-part of me wants to scream at them that they're repeating the same thing over and over, but part of me kind of feels bad because I'm an only child, they live far away, and they look forward to seeing me at Christmas. It drives me crazy though!

My brothers always have the same conversations over the holiday dinner table - football, Star Trek, politics.

My mom is notorious for that! She will even start telling a story that she told just a few topics ago. I usually just smile and shake my head. Then she'll realize what she is doing. Can't blame it on ole timers, cuz she's done it as long as I can remember. There are so many stories that I can recite word for word how she is going to tell it. Gotta love her though.

Same problem here. All the stories just meld together into one long boring tale.

Sounds like we should start a club. We could call it the "I've already heard that story, can we please talk about something nice for a change." Club

Especially if it doesn't end with my dad calling the relative not there or the local politician butt heads (use your imagination for the real word)

So how about those golden globe nominations?

I would join that club! LOL! My MIL & FIL are the same way. The only difference is which relative they are going to gripe about first. ;)

my inlaws come over every Sun for a visit--

I work every other weekend so on my weekends off we like to go to lunch and just bum around--usually to the mall or to thrift stores looking for refillable mugs from the Disney hotels--(not to use just to collect--I thought I better clarify that!!! :goodvibes )

So on those weekends they'll call my DH later that nite and say we stopped by but you wern't home we dont just stay home just casue you'll stop in__

on the weekends Im at work and they stop in usually they're still by our house when I get home if I dont say hi as soone as I step foot in the door they have some comment--and all they talk about is hospitals, meds insurance and illness!!!

Im a pharmacy tech in a hospital and once MIL arguered with me over the brand -genaric name of a grug!!! goog grief I work with these meds all day and shes arguring (sp) with me!!!!

They also love to hear anything that is doom and gloom I have a friend whose 2 kids are totally out of control-- (the kids are 19 and 15 now but they.ve had trouble since they were both around 13) both have spent time in a dention home!! so mil always asks me if Ive talked to my friend lately and whats going on with her kids. She said she likes visiting us so I can tell her whats going on with friends kids---thanks for asking about your own grandchildren my kids are DS 24 and is a Milwaukee policer officer-married to a terrific girl for almost 2 years--DD is 21 just got engaged and is getting married in AUg to a woderful guy-- is working full time and is in school studying to be a police officer!!

But see those are postive things no fun in that--most of the time when they visit I dont say much cause I usually get half through my story and subject is switched to another subject usually about meds.

thanks for letting me vent on this one--I feel better now :sunny:

I think my parents are getting old. My mom's always on the same topic - why her teaching job is the hardest. And my dad's saying the same jokes over and over again. Ahhh!

It's funny you say that because when we are with my uncle (the one that the whole family complains about) all he wants to talk about is how he's seeing a doctor for this and how much money the government is paying for his medicine and his doctors. And how much insulin he has to take for his diabetes. He'll tell you how high his sugar is and then say, "grab me a pepsi." Usually I ignore his request.

While I'm ranting to my friends let me throw in my grandmother. She calls all the time for me to tell my father something terrible. Someone you haven't seen or really thought about in 25 years died. Or his sisters- husbands brothers-wife, (someone we've met maybe five times) has "a touch of the cancer" Let me tell you my dad is not a happy man anytime and that doesn't help at all.

Santa was quite wonderful to me. If only he cleaned houses! :-)
