Rejected Offers Thread (Beginning April 2026)

This is exactly what I am mulling over. I have RIV direct plus RIV resale. If I add, will they be direct (to simplify my life) or O14 (to save money). The latter will be midly annoying, but maybe only just.
I think the lynchpin for deciding this will be (a) whether I really like LSL and if so (b) what the 1BR point charts look like.

I think all of those thoughts about insurance make a lot of sense to me and are probably similar to how think about most of it. Insurance for catastrophe (life, health, home, legal liability) - yeah, people probably tend to underinsure themselves. Insurance for smaller trips, extended warranties - I'd probably even throw dental/pet insurance into this category although tend to think that is best looked at as prepaid care - I think people often buy "peace of mind" with these sorts of things when they would be much better off skipping it and self-insuring.

And, my comparison to DVC purchases was just thinking about how much of the ability to exchange is based of a similar "peace of mind" feeling where that feeling is costing you more than it might need to. Obviously, the market will ascribe the value it deems appropriate to that feeling and my subjective opinion is just my opinion.

I've actually been thinking about this recently with the resale SSR purchase I made. I wonder whether I might have been better off going with resale RIV to supplement my direct points because the years left on the RIV contract combined with the benefits of home resort priority at RIV have greater value to me than the ability to exchange with the O14 resorts. Of course, my situation is different than someone brand new to DVC wanting to give as many resorts a go as they can.
The good news is that selling ssr is usually not much of a loss at all, if at all. It feels great to have that flexibility as the years pass and we discover where we really want to own

Also, points in the $80-100 range have (much!) less broker commission loss than points in the $150+ range.

Yeah some can get real testy about it. It's good to know who you are working with. But since we cant mention all brokers names here it's hard to give advice on certain brokers.
You can figure it out if you read their website... they make it clear they think an offer is like a signed commitment. I remember first reading it and wondering if they knew how contract law in the US works. An offer is not binding, an offer is just that - opening up negotiations. I think in the US we are so conditioned to buying from a store where prices are marked and fixed that we forget that there are still areas of life we can negotiate on. That said I would think people in real estate would realize that this is how business is done and if they don't like it find another line of work.

Good luck! I played this game for a while before finally throwing in the towel and paying $10/pt more than I wanted on a contract that perfectly met my needs. I’m trying not to let myself look at new listings while I wait for my contract to close, lol.

We were willing to be opportunistic but have no real urgency to do anything given our existing contracts have us sorted in the short term.

Now to immediately undermine that urgency claim: while chasing these, a perfect BWV contract came up that aligned to our current UY that we snagged at a great price (stay tuned on ROFR thread!).
