I have a question about carryons with Delta. I have called Delta 3 times, with 3 different answers. Can anyone who has been flying lately help me.

I am flying out next Thursday, from LGA to MCO with Delta. We are each, bringing one carryon suitcase & one backpack.

The question is the Baggy, is it only 1 quart size ziplock baggy per person, with all my toiletries, that are 3 oz & under? The Baggy, can't be any bigger that quart size?

Does that mean, if I can fit all my products including makeup & sun tan lotion, toiletries or anything that is under 3 oz that can fit in this baggy (filled to the rim) will that be OK?

Also, I have package vitamins, can they go in my suitcase (that will be carryons)?

I just don't want to have any problems once I get to the airport security.

Any help or advice would be great.

Thanks

Patricia

It's only the liquids/gels that are 3 oz. or smaller that have to go in one quart-sized zip-top bag per person. When I flew to Orlando 3 weeks ago, I had my toothpaste, stick deodorant, cologne, conditioner, suntan lotion, mascara, foundation, etc. in the plastic bag. My powder blush, eye shadow, toothbrush, lipstick was in a separate toiletry bag. For a family - I'd wait until you get to Orlando and then buy a larger bottle of shampoo/tube of toothpaste for the whole family to use, rather than have everyone bring a tiny bottle of this and that.

I had my vitamins in another ziploc bag (sandwich size) and it was just in my carry-on. Only thing I put in the plastic bin separately to be x-rayed was the quart-sized bag.

Last Friday, we noticed that security at MCO was very strict as to the size of the ziploc, also the 3oz. limit on all liquids and gels in it. Prescriptions and vitamins can go into your regular carryon, as long as they aren't "geltabs"; those have to go into that ziploc, too. Also, the ziploc must be taken out of the carryon and x-rayed separately.
The one thing I noticed that was odd (to me) is that although I always set off the alarm here at RDU (hip replacement), I never set it off at MCO! :confused3 Weird, huh?

Each person can have ONE baggie

The baggie CANNOT exceed a quart size and must be a ziplock type closure.

All items in the baggie should be liquid and NONE of them should be over 3 oz. That means the container is 3 oz or less. (No half full 6 oz bottles for example)

Stuffed to the brim may be dangerous. The offical "rule" is "comfortable" whatever that means.

Stick Deoderant is not a liquid, it does not need to go in the baggie. Gel deoderant does.... Mascara goes in the baggie, liquid foundation in the baggie, powder eye shawdow out. Sunscreen is a liquid (even the spray type) and MOST bottles exceed 3 oz.

The unknown is do the items have to be in thier original labeled containers. Depends on YOUR TSA agent... So my suggestion is to make sure everything is in a labled bottle. (NOTE: My bottle says "Johnson's Baby Shampoo" It does have shampoo in it, just not "Johnsons Baby Shampoo")

Hi CarolA,

I was hoping you would respond. I always love reading your reply on the boards, & I really "respect" your opinion. This is our first of many air travels with the new law in effect. This coming up trip next week is a quick one. Nov 9 - Nov 12.

I was really hoping for carryon.

Thanks everyone for your imputs. :thumbsup2

You mean I wasted 99 cents on the itty bitty travel size of Secret stick deodorant? ;) It was actually kind of nice to travel with less "stuff" in my carry-on, and I carried it ALL on!

I'm flying to Orlando 3 weeks from today and will be away 13 days. I'm going to try to pack everything in my rolling bag and a tote bag, cuz I don't want Delta to lose my luggage when I change planes in Atlanta. Therefore, I'll buy shampoo and conditioner when I get to my mom's, before going to WDW.

Supposedly, the telling factor in whether your deodorant is a gel or a solid is "does it squeeze through little holes?" If it does, then it is a gel and has to be in the baggie. If there is no little-hole screen that the deodorant passes through when applied, it is a solid and can be loose in your carryon.

Remember that each ticketed passenger gets a baggie of his/her own. If you don't have enough room for your liquids/gels in yours, you can co-opt some of your childrens' baggie space.

My husband uses stick deodrant and had an extra one in his briefcase. The TSA had him put it in the quart bag with his other items. He doesn't carry much liquids so it fit ok. So I wouldn't expect that all TSA agents will accept stick kind, because this one didn't.

Not answering your original question but how big are the back packs because it is one carry-on and one personal item not 2 big carry-ons. Depending on the gate person you may be gate checking one of those if the back pack is big.
