If a room is paid in full prior to arrival and you have to cancel your reservation how much do you lose? All of it? My understanding is that you would lose your deposit if you have to cancel somewhere within 5 days before. I would like to put more money down on our rooms but if there is an emergency I felt I may lose less if for some unexpected reason we will be unable to go. Therefore, having the minimum required deposit on our rooms may be the better way to go. Does anyone know the answer?

I believe your one night deposit is the only amount that could possibilty be lost. Please note that Disney is not unsympathic towards emergencies. Last May my son had a medical emergency that put him in the IC unit. We canceled the night before we were to leave--just hours before our flight--and Disney waived the policy. Canceling is one thing, but a life threatening emergency is different. PS--Delta also waived the fee of changing our tickets also.

We had a trip planned to WDW in September 2000. My DILs were paying for the trip for. TLate spring my DH's grandmother's health was really failing and my DMIL was concerned what would happen if we had to cancel the trip or arrive at Disney only to have to return home after a day or two there.

DMIL called WDW over the summer to explain the situation and she was told she wouldn't be penalized if she had to cancel the trip because of DH's grandmother's passing. I think Disney goes on a case-by-case basis and makes a decision based on the reason for cancellation.
