Reflecting on our Vero stay July 21st through July24th

We have fond memories of a week's visit to Vero in March of 2007. The weather was beautiful and we needed a relaxing, lay by the pool, ocean type of vacation. In 2008 we went to HHI-well, we returned this year for another week and our only complaint was it wasn't long enough! Next time 10 days! It just had a different feel. We're beach people and staying on the marsh side is no big deal to us-we have a place in northern OC, MD on the bay. We're used to a five minute drive to the beach. So, all I can say is "Go to Hilton Head, go to Hilton Head!" Also, we reserved our 2BR villa for late June at the 7 month mark with no problem-I was on a waitlist for one day!

I know... I was just trying to stick a little thorn in your side :goodvibes

I ask all my all my VB lover friends to not feel the need to defend VB. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes (and some have unusually tender feet).

I have a friend who took his family (DW, DD) to WDW years ago and when he came back he said "I took a bullet for the family". He doesn't ever plan to go back... Of course, I tried to explain all he did wrong to make it enjoyable, but I realized it was futile. Just different tastes.

To those who have had a not so magical experiences with VB... Please understand, some people just don't understand and wonder... "What the hell is wrong with you". :goodvibes

Happy times to all :beach:

:rotfl2: :worship: Rob you always make me laugh!!!!

People posting about what they veiw as a negative may just in fact help others make their trips more enjoyable. After discussing with DH about the shells in the sand at Vero he said "well I guess we have to make sure we bring our water shoes!" Also, I've read how people dislike how expensive it is to rent chairs and umbrellas.....I guess that means we pack those items in the car if Vero is part of our vacation plans. Things that made someones vacation less enjoyable for them might encourage others to look at how they can improve their own experience. OP didn't feel the CM's were up to WDW CM's standards....I will have less expectations of those CM's when I visit VB and maybe as a result I will be pleasently surprised rather than disappointed.

I like your attitude!

To the OP- I'm sorry that your VB stay didn't meet your expectations. That happens sometimes, but thank you for your review.

We went down as a couple the first time. Great weekend:love: That might have helped when we went down as a family. Our kids are younger so they were loving all the kid activities. I could see how an active older teen might be bored. We also dislike having to drive so far for dinners. The last time we were there we decided to treat this more like a true beach vacation. We packed a collapsable cooler and brought sandwiches to the beach or pool for lunch. Cooked a dinner or two in the cottage and ordered pizza to eat on the deck ....and a few fruity drinks to go with it! We do not live near the ocean so listening to those crashing waves all night was heaven. We were expecting a relaxing beach trip, with a few excursions (kayaking, nature center)

One question about the beach and shells for those that have been there..... The beach 'renourishment' project pumped sand from inland (underground) and trucked it to the beach. Has anyone noticed a difference in the sand quality or if it is shellier? Just all the comments about the sand made me wonder.

We have nothing to compare the sand to since this was our first Vero trip. I just know that the sand on the East Coast and Gulf is not like that of Vero. When you walk into the water at Vero it HURTS. :thumbsup2

New Jersey's beaches have shells that hurt sometimes. It depends on a lot of factors. I'm sorry that ruined it. When I could go in the ocean, that didn't bother me, at least not enough to say "never again!"

Yes it was not enough to keep my dh and older son from going in a lot while we were there.
