I cruised with the Disney Wonder last January and am going again this Jan. so we were wondering if we are still cruising on the Wonder and it has only been a year can we still use our refillable mugs?:Pinkbounc

I don't think they want you to do this, but we sailed last June, saved our mugs and used them again this past April with no problem. I was however prepared to get new ones just in case the style had changed.

That is what I thought might happen that they would change their logo or something, so I think we will take them just in case they don't. Thanks!!

We were on the June 8 western Disney Magic cruise and I had bought one mug since I drink a lot of diet Coke. My DW had brought the mugs from the Wonder cruise we took in June 2001 and she and my two sons (teenagers) all were able to get refills with no questions asked. We never planned it that way, just wanted the extra mugs for other drinks. My 14 YO tried it the first night and wasn't questioned we kept going from there. The only difference in the mugs is one says "Magic" and the other says "Wonder", which I would have thought they would check, but obviously not.

When we sailed the price was $35ea. for the 7 day cruise

I think you were just lucky in being able to use your Wonder mugs on the Magic. I have seen people on our cruise do this and were denied.

Can you fill me in on this?

Is this like the free refills at the resorts?

I really wish that Disney would just let you have all the soda that you want as part of the cruise just like the food. This seems so tacky (and yes, I know all the other cruise ships do this). They could just add $35 to the cost of the cruise and no one would blink an eye, if that is what they need to do. But the whole hassle over the pop is just ridiculous.

We will bring our own with us because it doesn't seem worth it to buy the mugs when you can just bring your own. But this is my one complaint about the whole experience. I love the DCL and will be taking our 3rd cruise in September (7 day). But this is one thing that really annoys me about the cruise.

I agree...I have always said they should just build the price of soda into the cruise price and have it unlimited. I always feel like I am being nickeled and dimed when it comes to soda.

missyb.....Disney Cruise line has a refillable soda mug program. You buy the mug onboard for $5.00 per day (7 day cruise is $35) and you must buy for the whole week). They say it should only be used for that sailing and not to be brought back again on future sailings, but many people have been told otherwise.

The 3/4 day also have it for $5 per day.

In principal, I would have to disagree with building the soda price into the cruise price. I know it's not much $$, but there are plenty of passengers who do not drink soda. It wouldn't be fair to them.

I can see both sides, but just to play "devils advocate", if someone doesn't mind having the $35 built into the cost of the cruise, why would you mind bringing an extra $35 along to buy a mug on the cruise?

Just wondering!

If the soda price was built in then you would not have to carry the mug around with you all cruise.

Also, although not everyone eats as much food as another person, the cruise price is the same for someone who eats 3 entree's or one entree, 10 meals or 3 meals. It would be the same for soda. If it was built in then no one would even know it. I think a cruise should be truly all inclusive, except for alcohol.

Westjones - which other cruise lines do not charge for soda?

I have only cruise on RCI and DCL and they both charge pretty similar in price.

just curious.

I meant that other cruises DO charge for soda. I have never been on another cruise, but I have heard they charge for soda. I just think Disney should be above this stuff, and realize that this one small thing is really annoying and instead try to service their customer in a better way. If it were 'built' in, no one would notice. I'm a vegetarian and so is my whole family. We don't get a discount because we don't eat the more expensive meat dishes. We just all pay the same thing for the cruise, and whatever food we eat is included. This is no reason why soda couldn't be the same thing. It just seem petty to me, and Disney should be above this kind of thing (in MHO :D ).

But, as it is, we will take our own along, and make due with the 'not so cold' in room beverage cooler.

The thing that has always bothered me about soda at the parks and now on the ships is the QUANTITY of paper or plastic glasses that are thrown away. They are adding to a landfill somewhere, or being burned. It seems so unnecessary.

When the parks started the mugs I was thrilled. Yes I carry the hotel mug with me all day. I put a baggie over the top and toss it in my backpack. When we buy soda for lunch I ask if they can put it in my mug. I am paying for it in the park, but I am keeping one glass out of the garbage stream.

One of my suggestions after my two other DCL cruises was that they institute a mug system. I am looking forward to getting mine in October because not only does it prevent litter, but it is a great souvenir and I will use it DAILY at home as a remembrance of my cruise on the MAGIC.

I have pins from park visits and cruises and they hang on a lanyard on the wall in my room. But every day I use a Disney mug around the house and on the way to work. I get my money's worth out of them.

HI!! I told my dad on how we could reuse the pop mugs we got last year on the cruise, and now he is woundering if he could bring the beer mug he bought on the cruise and reuse that again.
Would that be any diffrent then the pop mugs? He was just woundering that? Thanks:earsboy:

just don't forget if you are using mugs, to be sure to take them with you to Castaway Cay for refills. I forgot to grab them. That part of the soda mug program was really a pain.

I don't think they should add $35 to the charges--I think it's ridiculous to charge for it at all. Here we are eating all the lobster we want at dinner, but walk out of the dining room and now we're expected to pay for a drink that costs 20 cents at WalMart. Good grief.
