This couple at church told us today that they were told by a bus driver that you could re-use your WDW mugs on every trip you take, year after year. I think the bus driver didn't know what he was talking about.:confused3

First im going to say when it comes to this ? there are many things people do that are not on the magical side .
the rule is that you can use the mug on this trip till it ends .
since there was alot of people breaking this law i herd the got an trial period at the all star resort that the mug has a bar code who knows if disney will bring this to all resorts and if it is worth doing it ?? hope this helps :wizard:

That's what I thought, that the mug is good til your trip ends. I did not mean to start a problem thread since I did say that I think the bus driver was incorrect. I need to find my church friends and keep them honest LOL

Depends on the year of the mug. The original mug was good for life at that resort, back when each mug was resort specific.

The sign now says any new mug purchase is good till the end of your stay. There's many people that do multi resort stays, POP for a few nights and AKL for a few nights. With the universal mug, there's no more confusion about buying new mugs part way.

And Disney will not ruin your friend's magic if they do bring it back. But the sign does say till end of stay.

I see.

Well, we have never stayed there but I have eaten there twice (meeting friends for breakfast who were staying there.) We had no need for refillable mugs since we weren't staying.

It's in testing mode at one of the All Star Resorts...Sports, I think? So for right now, it's only at one resort.

The other resorts have not changed. :)

It is at Sports right now, my parents just got back. They could only fill it so many times an hour, and the chip decides how much drink to put in your cup on each fill.

Wow! I didn't realize it did all that!

I stayed at All Star Sports Aug 28-Sept.5 and the mug I bought at CBR (same mug as they had @All Star Sport just different color lid) would not work at All Star Sports. They explained that there is a chip in the bottom of the cup of the All Star Sports mug that was not in the one I bought. Since I had the receipt they just issued a new mug. The cold beverages had special attachments that would not work without the chip. I have a closet full of Disney mugs, even the ones they assured me would be good forever, but I love to collect the new ones each trip.

Yes. It's a trail at the Sports Resort. Time will tell. Not sure it's a great idea. A lot of theme parks offer free soda. Lake Compounce in CT does as do some others.

Remember that at the Disney Water Parks you buy a sticker with a bar code and you can reuse the mug every year. Not sure why they didn't just sell bar codes at the resorts. Works well at the water parks. My mug has at least five stickers on it.

I have to say i find this both kind of cool and upsetting. For someone like me I would probably only refill once eery 30-45 mins. I don't drink very much but my husband drinks like a camel. When we go out to eat he drinks 4-5 glasses of soda or water with his meal. He is always very well hydrated :)

But i do appreciate the technology behind it.

ITA! I understand them wanting to stop abuse of the system, but it kind of reminds me of ISPs limiting your "unlimited" internet. I, like your husband, tend to drink quite a bit and I would be rather upset paying $15 for a refillable mug and then being told I had to limit how much I use it.

Genuinely free? Or you pay $x one day and can drink as much as you want of the included beverages that day?

The 'limited number of times per hour' is, from everything I've read, actually a five minute pause between refills - so, twelve every hour. I think that's to discourage people from filling one mug and immediately pouring it off into an unchipped container, then refilling the valid mug and pouring it off into another container, then refilling the valid mug and pouring it off... :teeth:

I think it's only 4 times an hour...so 15 mins between refills, but I'm not sure. :)

I didn't pay that close attention to it. I'm sure the info is on the Resorts board for anyone willing to look for it. :)

Yes and no. When the mugs were first introduced they were good at that resort for all future trips.

The current mugs No.

Yup, this will NOT go over with my DH either. He will often down an entire glass while at the station, then refill it before walking away. (No, he doesn't stand in the way while he drinks his first glass...)

I understand the idea behind it, but you can't really "limit" something that is "unlimited" right? How can they say you can "enjoy unlimited refills" if you are limited to 4 refills per hour:confused3.

It would work for me but it is NOT going to work for my DH at all! He is a big guy and especially when we've had a day in the HOT weather, the minute we get back to the resort he gets a drink in his refillable mug and chug a lugs the whole thing. Then he refills immediately and drinks that one leisurely while we wait on our food. When the food arrives, he will get another refill at some point before we go back to our room.

sigh -- I'm anxious to see how Disney thinks this is working....
