you can buy any universal mug which generally run between $7 - 10

they are valid for life and can be used for refills forever.

i prefer the mugs that have handles and less boxy in shape. just a personal choice. i love sponge bob but his mug is more square in shape, as he is..

i have been reading that the refills for the mugs are .69 this summer.
that price must be a mummy gift to the park guests.

when i go mid october, the refill price is generally $1.25.
I can show my AAA card or AP card and get a 10% discount on that $1.25.

just call me cheap

some carts will not honor the refill price. i did find one or two that did last year.
generally, you can get the refills at the cs places in the parks.

I have been paying .69 since the winter :confused3 There haven't been any carts that turned me down yet either :confused3 maybe it is just the ones I am going to  We have the SpongeBob and hate it.. I have had that for years & refuse to bring that to the parks. This past year we got the Spidy one, actually, my DD is the one that got it :rotfl: That one is much easier to carry since it does have the handle.

my mug is dueling dragons/ice. the year the ride went up is the year i bought it.

has a handle and the cap and straw really are sealed tight.
never had a leak.

i can loop it on a belt for hands free walking in the parks.

i was there during columbus day for a 4 day weekend.
price must have come down after i left.

that's great you got the cheaper refill in the winter time!

i have the spongebob & the reg universal mugs & in dec it was .69 & the stands were EVERYWHERE...infact they were almost to readily available...i think i drank quadruple what i usually do!!:lmao:

$6-$8 each, then .69 for refills PER DAY!!! They told me you can't use the mugs throughout your visit..They change the color of the mug each day!
For a family of 4, for one day, lets say $7 per mug..Thats $28 for mug then probably at least 4 drinks per day for 4 peopl...Thats 16 times .69..Rounded thats $11 for refills..$28 per day for mugs and $11 for refills...$39 on drinks!

If thats a deal, I'll pass!!!!

Am I correct that you can't use the mugs throughout your visit? If that were the case like at Disney, it would be cost efficient...

Any comments or clarification?

Thanks.

i have no idea what you are talking about............

whoever told you the mugs change color daily or not valid forever was incorrect.

at UNIVERSAL, the mugs are valid for refills for life. (not free refills but a big discount for the drinks.)

i have been using one of mine since the 1990's and the dueling dragon mug when that ride and merch came out

are you talking about the sippy cups that you can buy if you have the meal deal?
that is something different. even with that program, people are using those cups for each day of their vacation in the parks.

universal has mugs of all shapes and designs.
when you buy one of them, you are eligible to reuse it all you want and anytime you want. if you bought one in 2001 and bring it back with you for a 2009 trip, you most surely can use it and get the refill discount cost for it.

the mugs come in all colors, styles, characters, etc.

sponge bob, mib, dd, characters, etc.
so many and new ones come out each year.

the disney mug is valid for the vacation stay one time only.
they have a rule that their mugs are not valid for future trips

just the opposite with universal/ioa

If I can purchase and use the mugs over the course of a stay, it is certainly worth it!

Thanks! Perhaps the person was confused with the sipper meal deal...:dance3:

that is one good reason to ask on the forums here about universal.

sometimes a person will tell you wrong info.
so, you decide not to attend or change your plans and miss out on a different type of park.

i was the first poster that answered your question about the mugs.
then more followed.

when you came back and said you heard elsewise, i understand your frustration.

whenever you have doubt of some info given out here, go to the universalorlando.com website and check it

it has info on it about the meal deal, cup deal and lists there resturants that participate w/ meal deal, etc.

you will not find on the website that if you buy a mug at UO, it is valid forever for the refill program. i found out by a TM years ago about that.

it is one of those "secrets" that you can learn about in the forums here.
another thing many might not be aware of is the TM's at guest services can exchange your print at home ticket sheets for passes if you don't want to carry that barcode sheet around all day.

if you have more questions, just ask.
there is always someone around to help.

not only can you purchase them over the course of your stay, you do not need one for every person in your party either! You can share your mugs, unlike Disney :thumbsup2 You are paying for your refill. I only bring one to the park when there are only two of us, me & my DD share one. I don't drink that much soda. I am more of a big water drinker & it is easier than carring 2 mugs around all day.

And as macraven said, they are good for life, not just your trip. You return to Universal next year or when ever, you bring your mug... and get refills. Now the 69 cents may not be the price, you will pay what ever the rate is at the time, but it is much cheaper than purchasing a drink in a paper cup or bottle/can.

::yes:: totally agree with mickey.

you can share your drink out of your mug with anyone you want to.
be careful of spitters though.....

you are paying for the refills, and if you want to buy a couple of refills in a ten minute time period, the TM will be glad to take your money.

no problem...

last year one of the nicest tm's gave me a new plastic straw for my dd mug.
i had dog earred it so much it had sharp edges.

and then i went to gs and asked them to do the comment card on how much i appreciated the tm and the mummy dust he gave me.

i always try to compliment an employee at least once a day thru gs.

btw, unless the MIB mug has changed prices, its generally one of the cheaper mugs and easier to handle (in my opinion) ..

ok, I have a refillable bottle in front of me so I'm copying this text directly. On the bottle it says

"Stay refreshed with specially priced refills all day"

"Good for day of purchase only"

Seems clear enough, but then we were told by a drink-stand worker that those bottles could be reused any day. So we brought it back and re-used it for 3 days in a row. How's that for confusing?

This was 2 weeks ago, btw. Ours is a water-bottle type thing, not a mug. Cost was $7 and .69 refills. We shared...not to be cheap, just because they are pretty big and didn't want to lug four of them around.

mine is definitely a mug with a handle.

nothing like a bottle in form style.

i have the heavy durable plastic feel type mug with the screw on tight thick lid with the straw that is detatchable
it also has has the little hook that holds the straw in place.

when i figure out how to post a pic here, i'll do a pic of my dd mug.

but, on the other hand, congratulations on the refills.

mummy dust at work.

My "mug" is the tall plastic blue drink holder mug/cup/bottle. :rotfl: I am not sure what you really want to call it. It has Spidy on it and Islands Of Adventure written on it as well. It has no other writing on it, and definatly doesn't have "Good for day of purchase only" on it.

Since mac is technologically backwards, ( :duck: ) I'll post a pic of the Good Forever cup/mug style. This one is a Twister one:

cups002.jpg

too bad you won't be there darkie when i go to universal....
i could bop you on the head with my dd mug..........

technically backwards........ha!

i'm just blonde.....

i have the original dd/ice mug.
i think you are jealous...........i have a handle and you don't...

Sorry another refillable mug question...

Can you get the refills at any of the resorts?

And could you use one of those clips (carabeaner?sp?) to hook it onto a belt loop?

TIA, Kathy

Can someone post a picture of a mug with a handle (maybe the MIB one)? Trying to see which one to buy.

Thanks

you buy them in the parks, not at the resorts.

i'll try to take a pic of my dueling dragon mug.
it has a handle.
