A friend purchased directly from Disney. I got a letter thanking me for the referral from Disney...don't I qualify for the $200 gift card? When will that be formalized? It's been over six weeks?

Does Michigan law allow you to receive a cash gift? Several States do not including our State of Texas.

Hmmm never thought of that...then I would assume a $200 credit on next years maintenance fees would be appropriate...actually that would be better and less hassle for most people I would assume....

A credit is the same as a cash reward, in Texas we get the letter that you described, that's it. I once asked for a couple VIP Fast Passes and I was told by our Guide that the Fast Passes are reserved for people who are buying.

From the DVCmember website it looks like Michigan is not eligible for the $200 referral reward

"Eligible Jurisdiction" refers to any jurisdiction that permits its residents to participate in the Program. Current Eligible Jurisdictions are: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Wisconsin. DVD reserves the right to add or remove Eligible Jurisdictions as business and/or jurisdictional changes require. The Program is not available in any jurisdiction in which the offering or availability of the Program is prohibited by applicable law.

Five are on our contract and one is located in Colorado...perhaps I can make a case for her to get the gift card... What do you think? :confused3

In the UK we aren't allowed the $200 either. As someone has said a couple of special fastpasses would be nice or a free pin!

That's really interesting that same states can't receive the credit. I had no idea. That's really too bad.

Blame the states' legislators. Their intent was to protect their citizens from timeshare scams and kick-back schemes.

In Texas I was told by the Texas Real Estate Commission that the law is in place to protect licensed Realtors.

I'm going to ask my own question on here as I have the same question... I just referred someone and received the letter saying thank you. I live in Ohio so I'm eligible for the $200 gift card, how long until I get that????

Thanks

Is it only if you purchased new? What if you have a resale and refer someone?

There are no referrals for resale purchases.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but is the person you've told to buy DVC buying it direct? If they are buying resale, like you did, there's not going to be a referral bonus. But if they are buying direct, you're considered a member, and I don't see why you wouldn't get the bonus (if you're otherwise eligible) for a friend of yours buying *direct* and telling them your name up front.

instead of posting the question here, call DVC member services and ask them. i am sure they can give you an answer whether you get it or not, why, and when. And...once you have a nice friendly CM on the phone, perhaps he/she would be nice enough to give you some type of legal perk on your membership or next trip. I don't see how Texas legislature can prevent you from getting a fastpass, upgraded room, discounted dinner, or something else...in Florida or California.

I think the question is what happens if you purchased through resale and then referred someone who bought direct. Would you still be eligible for the bonus?

Yes, you would. DVC has not changed the referral program since it's inception and it not likely to do so now. They make so much from direct purchases, they have no reason not to include resale owners to share in the reward program. I doubt that will change going forward.

While Texas legislature might not discover a fastpass, upgraded room, discounted dinner or something else, DVD is unlikely to jeopardize their agreement with the Texas legislature to give such a benefit to a Texas resident in violation of Texas law. DVD has far more to lose than gain.

I think the way to go about it is to let your state legislature know you are disappointed with their policy regarding this situation. That would likely have more succes than expecting DVD to take any chance with violating Texas law (or that of any other state).

Good luck! :)

I got another letter from the guide they purchased from..gonna call and see if he could send to my daughter in Colorado, who is on our contract, with the Colorado address...
