How is it handled if you make a dining reservation for a larger group (9) and then before time for the meal (a day or two before) part of the group decides they don't want to eat where you have ressies?

we are traveling with another family and they are wanting us to make reservations for all our meals together and thought that maybe they could change their minds after the ressies are made.

Would the existing reservation get cancelled and a new one for a smaller group be made, or would they just adjust the number in the group when/if we called back to make changes?

I assume it is easier to reduce the number of diners than to add additional diners to a reservation.

We had this happen before too and it wasn't a problem. My inlaws were tired and wanted to just go back without dinner and relax so we called and said we had less people and they said no problem. We did it only a few hours before our ressie too.

Thanks for the quick response!

That's what I thought, but just wanted to see if it was a problem.

Hi there!
Adding people will definitely represent more of a hassle due to having to look for more room at the restaurant, but dropping people off won't be a problem. Their internal policy states they are able to take a modification in a party reduction without a problem in a 'no money attached' ressie.
