I showed her pediatrician today during a routine exam and she disagreed with me, and said if it had been just a burst blood vessel it would have faded by now. She had me schedule a follow up appointment with the eye doctor next week.

I'm kind of freaked out now - what else could it be? I will post a picture later on today. The doctor thought it looked a little inflamed almost, like an infection - but it doesn't bother her at all. Doesn't itch (other than seasonal allergies) and doesn't hurt. The eyeball isn't pink or anything. It's just a red blotch.

The only thing I can think of is that she's a swimmer and wears goggles on a regular basis. I noticed the spot is more red after she swims, either from the suction/pressure of the goggles or chlorine.

Any ideas?

I'd be making an appointment for a pediatric eye doctor right now. . Any other bleeding/bruise related issues?

Aggh, you are freaking me out!! No, no bleeding or bruising issues. What do you think it could be?

The soonest I could get her in for an appointment was next week.

I've had a burst blood vessel in my eye and, the doctor is correct, that would have disappeared within a few week.

Try to relax, I know it's not easy but it's been stable for awhile now, correct? I'm sure a one-week wait will be fine.

It can take months for redness from a burst blood vessel to go away.
It definitely could also have something to do with goggles as they kind of suction cup your eyes.
It could also be a freckle.
It could also be something more serious.
Its likely nothing to worry THAT much about though if it is not bothering her.
The appointment is next week so its not like its a month away.
I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Actually they can last months.
I am a "frequent flyer" if you will when it comes to eye doctors lol. So I know it can last for a long time especially if you're doing something that seems to make it worse like wearing goggles.

I've noticed that if she doesn't swim for several days and doesn't rub it, it slowly starts to fade (kind of brownish/yellowish). Then she'll rub her eye (allergies) or use the goggles and then it's red again.

Definitely take a pic of it now if its pretty red in case it fades a bit by the time you get her into the eye doctor.

Well, sounds like she might have a weak vessel in that eye then. I went through a spell of that many years ago. I just kept getting a burst in the same area. Finally stopped.

How old is she? Maybe it's the swimming itself (and/or the goggles) that's aggravating a weak blood vessel.

It's good your doctor was right on it and you're seeing someone relatively soon.

The worst part of the wait is the worry. Hang in there. :flower3:

I dont think its anything and will go away on its own, but you still probably should go see an eye Dr

Eyes are something you never ever mess with. You only get one pair. The moment you see something amiss with an eye, get ye hither to an opthamologists stat!

Any updates on this?

Yes, we saw the eye doctor and he prescribed steroid eye drops. The drops worked and the spot was almost completely gone. However, we went back after two weeks and the steroids had caused the pressure in her eyes to increase, which is a big risk for glaucoma. So we had to stop the drops. Then, of course, the spot came back. He had us see another eye doc for a second opinion and they both agreed it is something called Episcleritis. Here's the weird part though - normally those fade within a couple of weeks. I did a lot of googling and I did find a thread on some medical board full of people that have also had these spots last for months or even years.
She's had the spot for nearly a year now. Same pattern - gets red when she itches her eye and sometimes after using goggles. The eye doc looked and looked at her eye so many times, all he could say was that she seemed to have a large group of blood vessels in that spot.
I don't know what else to do about it at this point. It doesn't hurt, and doesn't affect her vision. We've seen two eye docs, but the spot is still there. I've decided to just monitor it for now. If it gets worse or starts to bother her, I'll take her back in.

Many years ago (as an adult), I had a bout with "episcleritis." I kept getting what your daughter has sporadically. It all eventually resolved itself and my doctor thought that, at the time, I just had some weak or superficial blood vessels in the eye. At the same time, I having some facial flushing (and I think it impacted my eyes) and that was linked to rosacea. In the end, it turned out to be nothing. The important part is that you are having the more serious things ruled out.
