Does anyone know of a good way to recycle old cameras/electronics? My parents were about to throw out an old Canon Elf and I told them I was pretty sure there were places that you could either trade in old electronics, or I know our town does a once a year electronics recycling drive.

Does Best Buy still take trade ins towards new items? Just looking to see if anyone has experience doing this.

Thanks in advance!

canon does a trade in or trade up program:

The number to call is 1-866-443-8002 Canon Loyalty program, or 1-800-828-4040 Tech support.

the cameras do not need to be in working order to trade up

examples of some offered right now:

$149 for Powershot 890 is about $220 new
$199 for a SX10 IS $328 new
$359 for Rebel Xs $499 new

the ones offered are refurb with 6 month warranty

You can trade in old electronics for a Target giftcard. The details are on their website.
Our school does a recycle drive every year, so they can check with any of their local schools.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into both Canon's loyalty program (wish I had known that when I bought my parents their new camera) and the Target program.
