I am one week out from my total abdominal hysterectomy and I think I am going to lose it before my recovery is complete! I came home on Thursday and felt pretty sick all weekend so laying around wasn't a problem. Now, I feel too good to lay around but still too weak and tired to do anything. I can't drive yet anyway. So here I sit. And you know what's kind of funny? I actually thought I would enjoy having the chance to do absolutely nothing for a while! Who would have thought I'd be a freaking lunatic after only a few days?
Anybody got any brilliant ideas to pass the time while your body heals, other than watching TV (OMG I am so sick of it!) or playing on the computer?

Do you do any crafts? Have you tried counted cross stich? If not, you could have a friend pick up an easy kit for you. What about sorting drawers when you feel a little bit better. I used to put a chair in front of the dresser and sort away with a couple laundry baskets nearby to toss stuff in to get rid of. I had my family take care of that when they got home.

How about going through all those old photos? Make albums or sort into photo boxes?

Ever finish the baby books? I haven't and they are 20 and 21 now. :confused3

How about cards, rearranging picture albums, books..

Hope you get better in a hurry, sounds like you are:hug:

Yeah, I wanted to get some scrapping done but unfortunatly the meds I am on make my hands very shaky so that will have to wait.
I haven't resorted to cleaning or organizing anything yet but that may come soon! I just have to be careful so that my family doesn't think I'm "all well" and they can stop the cooking and cleaning!;)

A good book! I've recently become addicted to Mary Jane Clark. She's very good as is Mary Higgins Clark. As far as 'chick lit' is concerned, I enjoy Jane Greene.

Hope your recovery goes smoothly!

:)

Do you have photo editing software? It's fun to find Disney clip art and make autograph books. No need to cut anything. Also,I like to read when I'm not feeling well.

Oh I know how you feel! I went through the same thing after my hyterectomy. For some reason I had a hard time concentrating so even reading was hard. As I was feeling better I had things to do, like scapbooking, but just couldn't muster the energy to do it.TV got boring really quick! I didn't realize HGTV and the like repeated shows throughout the day.
I had to be very careful not to do too much because I was bored. After the first week or so I was making simple meals and having the kids put clothes in the washer and dryer for me.
Good luck, I hope you get some good suggestions to pass the time. Also, continued good healing.

Hey I'm post op 2 weeks today from same thing. I felt like that last week too. I am not a sitter or a busy work person. I am almost done with an afghan I started crocheting. I'm up to walking for 50 whole minutes and have ignored the "yard confined" directive. the doc said that was negeotiable anyway. Hope you feel better soon.

Do not lift or bend. It will just delay your recovery.

Do you scrapbook? How about read a few books.

I could not drive for 3.5 weeks after my surgery, and I never felt sick. I just did organization of light stuff (no bending or lifting), read, scrapbooked etc.

I was in your shoes one year ago last January. Boy, do I know how you feel! Did you have a major abdominal incision or was it laporascopic? Mine was incisional, so it took me 7 weeks to finally get back to real life. I was dying to get back to the gym!! Don't rush this, and trust me, everything will return to normal, but give yourself time. I happened to have loved TV watching, so I did ALOT of it. I remember one of the weekends and TV land had a marathon of All in the Family, loved it, thats all I did. Anyway, just be patient and rest.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know what you mean about not being able to concentrate; I feel like my brain is in a fog.

Yes, it was abdominal so I have a six inch incision to heal. I had staples out yesterday but I am still several shades of black and purple.

The up side is that I came home 14 pounds lighter! Along with my uterus and one ovary, they removed a fibroid tumor the size of a soccer ball! I was the talk of the women's unit because I'm small to begin with and no one could figure out how I was hiding that thing! I'll tell you; painfully, that's how!

I know this is going to take time and I'm really not complaining. I am so thankful I had the surgery and it's over and done with. I'm just used to being a very active person and I love to exercise. I think the lack of activity may be why my brain seems to be so sluggish. (Do we have a 'duh' smilie?)

Are you on VMK? I know I 'managed' to get some game time in month before last when I was out a week and a half with some neck surgery.:) It helped 'kill' some time. :rotfl: (Of course if you are not on, I won't mention the fact that it can be addicting):lmao:
Good luck with your recuperation.

My mom got me hooked on the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a rookie bail bondsperson who gets herself into the most dangerous and hilarious situations. She's a real scrappy, kick-butt kinda girl! :thumbsup2

The books are numbered in the title, One for the Money, Two for the Show... It looks like they go up to 13 now, though I think I'm on 8 or 9 now.
