What transportation do you recommend taking from/to the airport, MCO, to the Shades of Green resort? It will just be my mom and me coming in on a Saturday afternoon in mid October and returning on Wednesday morning for an 8:00 AM flight. We don't want to rent a car.

I'm trying to figure out if we should use Uber/Lyft, Mears Connect shuttle or other service. Anyone with recent experience for round trip transportation from MCO to Disney area resorts?

Thank you!

My experience is from about a year ago with my adult DD and myself, so not recent but I'd imagine is the same where Mears Connect is concerned.

We used Mears Connect and it was fine. The thing to know which we just didn't think about was since not everyone on the bus has military ID to be allowed on SOG property, you will be the last one dropped off coming from the airport and the first ones picked up to go back.

We also were put in a small van for the way back with a stop at the Polynesian and one at the Grand Floridian. That wasn't ideal but it was OK. I didn't want to drive so I was happy lol.

We've never done a rideshare from MCO, only once when we changed WDW hotels mid-stay.

The advantage to renting a car is you avoid having to make multiple stops with those other car services. If you go the online taxi route, that can get pricey if you also plan to make other side trips to go shopping or out to eat off of Disney property. We stayed at SOG a number of years ago and the biggest disadvantage we found is there is no easy way to get anywhere else besides taking a Disney bus (if you don't have your own rental car). So getting to/from the airport isn't the only consideration, but also depends on what all you plan to do while there.

The military ID thing must be a new requirement as it didn't apply back when we stayed there.

Did you stay when it was the golf resort or one of the other versions of the hotel when run by Disney? Or after the military took it over?

I should clarify about IDs! Someone in the party either needs a military ID or is sponsoring others to stay at SOG or enter the property.

Since Mears passengers at other resorts are often not military, they can't enter the resort without being linked to a sponsor.

Was several years ago we stayed there, don't recall the year. More recently, when we stayed @ Contemporary in 2019, I walked from Poly to SOG one morning since their pro shop has a great selection and sells apparel I have never found anywhere else. No one asked to see any sort of military ID, but it seems in general they discourage walking between Poly/SOG. Wasn't aware the current practice is to limit access that way.

The pro shop may have different rules; we're not golfers and have never gone there. I do believe Disney owns that area and it's run by someone contracted by them, not Shades of Green. You didn't have to speak to the gate guard to enter SOG though? I'm surprised if that's the case because we've stayed there pretty much every year since 2017 and always need to speak to the gate guard whether walking or driving into SOG resort.

Unfortunately, there is also no longer an ability to walk to the Polynesian, which was shut down around May 2023 because Disney is expanding the road and took away that ability permanently. Before that, it was fine to walk back and forth, and opened up more dining and transportation options.

I've used flacarservice.com ... fair prices imo and have a new/er fleet of vans.. driver was a female, nice and easy going.

We stayed at SOG this past weekend. We just used Uber from/to MCO. We had 6 people and needed the Uber XXL and it was under $70 each way. It was more convenient for our needs.

Mears connect is hit or miss in my experience. You might be the first stop or last, so the journey can be 45 minutes or 2 hours. You also might end up in a nice coach bus or cramped, smelly van. For two people, I would use Uber/Lyft.

Thank you for your reply. How were the buses to and from the parks?

We went to MK for MNSSHP on Friday night and Animal Kingdom on Saturday. We had no issues with buses to either park. They give you a bus schedule when you check in, and we've always found that the SOG bus has the closest bus slot at drop off and pick up.

We were the only ones going to Animal Kingdom, so we went right there; normally it's combined with DHS. When we got picked up, it made a stop at Hollywood Studios, but that was no biggie for us.
