Hi all! I could use some battery advice. I have a Sony H2 and the charger that came with it. Do I need to get Sony batteries or can I charge any NiMH battery in that charger? If any, what do you recommend? I've heard the Maha PowerEx recommended before, but due to a gift certificate, I'd love to find something that Amazon sells with free shipping. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I'm not familiar with the Sony H2 or the charger but I am familiar with Maha Powerex batteries. I use the 2700mAh AA batteries and am blown away by their performance and how long they last in my D300 battery grip. I also use their Imedion line of AA and AAA's and have had no problem with them at all. To charge them, I use the 8 cell 1 hour charger. That works great as well. I purchased all of mine from newegg.com.

I have been using the regular Walmart variety Duracells for about a year with better results than Energizers. I also use a Duracell charger that has an individual circuit for each cell. That helps prevent overcharging that seriously decreases the life.

Eneloop have been some great batteries! I was skeptical at first but they have not faltered one bit.

They have a cool new gadget also its a Eneloop solar charger! Leave your batteries on the dash and come out for lunch or at the end of the day and have a fresh set waiting on you.

Solar charging...now that's a cool idea. Thanks for all of the advice everyone! I really appreciate it. I was planning to use part of my gift certificates for a gorilla pod SLR and was hoping to add my batteries into the purchase as well.

The Sanyo solar charger is $170!!! I like the idea but the price is gonna' have to come down, way down.

I got one similar to this from laptops for less a couple of years ago on sale and it has done ok. I just leave it on the dash or in the back where it gets direct sun in the car.

Here are a couple more to look at if interested.
