Recommended Airlines?

We have a Disney Cruise departing June 30, 2018.

(We will be coming from Michigan. Most likely DTW or FNT)

Our plan is to fly to Orlando on June 29, take Magical Express to WDW, spend a night at Port Orleans, take Magical Express to Port Canaveral.

We are doing the exact reverse of that after the cruise.

With all that in mind, what are some good airlines?

I fly pretty much only Jetblue and Southwest nowadays. I fly the legacy airlines if I absolutely have to, but I seldom have terrific experiences with them. The really low cost, budget airlines, like Frontier and Spirit, can look less expensive, but they tack on fees for just about everything and many people report having a ton of issues with them.

Where are you coming from? That could make a big difference. Ultimately, in most cases, the answer to your question is, "Whichever airline has a nonstop flight."

From DTW, Delta has several nonstop flights to MCO.

If you're flying in the day before your cruise, try for an early flight. Don't risk flying in the late afternoon or evening. If something goes wrong with a later flight, you might not make it to your cruise on time.

From Detroit, Delta is your best choice. Not sure about Flint.

If something goes wrong, Delta has the most options to reroute you. I would opt for direct from DTW. Departures from FNT usually go through Atlanta or Detroit. Atlanta can have summer thunderstorms, which isn't a big deal but can result in weather delays.

Airlines with lots of flights are good. That way if weather ornovernooking is an issue you have many choices. And don't choose the last flight of the day. :)

Just to clarify a statement the OP didn't ask for advice about: DME is only between the airport and the resorts. There is separate DCL transportation running between the resorts and the port. For a per person fee, and I'm not positive it picks up at every resort.

I would chose Delta or Southwest from Detroit. Spirit is too risky. Just looking today one of their flights is 6 1/2 hours late.

1) And, the "add-on" charges can equal the total fare of the legacy airline(s).
2) I would just book the cheapest flight from Delta.

Does Southwest even fly DTW-MCO non-stop anymore? I read that they only have ONE Saturday non-stop, seasonally at that.

out of DTW, i only fly delta non-stop to MCO...
they're not bad....not great, but not bad....
and some of the ground agents, if you're lucky enough to get an old northwest agent, are really good...

a disboard friend who lives in the northern suburbs of detroit often flies out of flint...i'm not sure which airline he flies..

but i always go out of DTW non-stop to MCO on delta....

I flew Spirit DTW to MCO last February and booked with them again next February. Never had an issue. Friends of mine fly Spirit every year DTW to MCO and only issue was a 30 minute delay. All airlines except Southwest charge for baggage, but they no longer fly nonstop from DTW. Purchase a drink and snack before boarding - $2 or 3, no biggie. Our flights for next February are close to half the cost of the flights we would have booked had we gone with Delta. The issues going on a few weeks ago were due to employee pay negotiations (strike if they were union) - that's not going to go on forever, in fact, I haven't heard anything lately so may already be resolved.
