Recommendations for renting manual wheelchair?

My mother will be requiring wheelchair assistance this year and I am trying to find options for renting a chair for her (would also be open to purchasing a cheaper one if the cost makes sense versus renting). Manual wheelchair only, no scooters. Is there somewhere I can go to get info on renting directly from Disney as well as a list of other rental companies in the area and their services/costs? I have seen a great list of this info for strollers but not for mobility equipment.

It would be very much ideal to have the chair for the length of our stay versus renting one out each day at whatever park we are at (not sure how Disney's rentals work). That way we would have it for DTD, resort touring, etc. as needed and no checking out a chair to add to each morning's agenda.

I would not rent from disney as there are heaver and really big most places that rent stroller or schooner also rent wheel chair, there is a link at the top of the page that has wheel chair renter It is one on the ponded pages I think the one that is the disability perniment temporary that one I am sure someone will be in with the link for you.

and use you can take a rented one with you any where you go if your mom can walk some like in the room then you may not need an assessable room you can just fold the wheel chair up in the room

Walgreen frequently sells transport chairs (four small wheels, not self-propellable) for between $100 and $130. Amazon might be even cheaper. If you do choose to rent, I recommend Walker Mobility*. Their wheelchairs come in four or five sizes.

*I have no affiliation with Walker except as a satisfied ECV renter.

A list of vendors -- both featured and non-featured -- can be found in the disABILITIES FAQs thread pinned near the top of this forum. You'll have to call about costs; not sure what other "services" you'd like to know about. Most rent wheelchairs and ECVs, as well as some common accessories; some may rent other medical equipment, and I believe at least a couple also rent strollers.

Enjoy your vacation!

don't do Disney. they are rickety, cannot leave the park areas and the ones they give you to go from the gate to TTC is even WORSE.. we had a wheel fall completely off once while trying to get to the monorail.

look at the sticky that lists the preferred vendor companies. they also do wheelchairs and I was very happy with the price( much less expensive than disney even with their multi day discount) those are with you 24/7,. and have more options as far as size(if she is very petite or even if she is heftier they make chairs that fit better)

While we have our own chair, I would recommend renting one from outside vendor. The cheaper chairs, or transport chairs that you can buy are not easy to push and can be unstable with four small wheels. I would suggest a small cushion to sit on .

We tried a transport chair on a recent trip as it would be easier in the airport and car. but it is not good on uneven pavement or door entries and jams. As soon as it hit a slight dip or rise it stopped dead or dumped so we ended up renting a length of stay wheelchair. I battled out with family and finally it sunk in for independence and ease on the family for them to rent a small scooter.

Thoughts...

We use a transport chair for my son as he cannot propel a wheelchair by himself. After several different ones, we have found that the ones with the 12 inch back wheels and the stroller type wheels in the front do much better handling bumps in the sidewalks, cracks, those pesky railroad rails in MK, etc. If you get a transport chair, DO NOT get one with the 4 small wheels. They are pretty useless.
