I have a large group (6 adults, 3 kids) that will be arriving in the afternoon of Nov 1 but not due to check into the Animal Kingdom Lodge (too long of a story to tell if you're asking why we aren't flying on the 2nd).

Regardless, was hoping to get a reasonably priced hotel and spend that evening at downtown disney. I have three kids (4,3,3) and my mother-in-law who has fibromyalgia so we won't be able to walk very far to go to Downtown Disney so I've accepted I'll be driving.

Would prefer to be someplace fairly close to Downtown Disney so that the drive itself to there won't be that long, but also so that it won't be too far of a drive to go to Animal Kingdom the next morning.

Can anyone recommend a relatively well priced hotel in that general area. I know I can look it up on Expedia but wanted to get first-hand experiences if possible because there are so many choices. I guess for one night we can't really go wrong, but my in-laws and my parents (both going with us) are a bit picky!

Thanks in advance,
Rene

How about the downtown disney area resorts. You can walk to DTD from most of them. They are on disney property but aren't owned by disney.

Looked at them with the Hotel Royal Plaza being the most appealing price wise using the CAA/AAA discount ($93/room).

We probably won't be able to walk to DTD - my kids are fairly young (4,3,3) and my mother in law has trouble walking far distances. From what I recall the time I stayed at the Grosvenor, it's fairly close but the others on that strip would likely be too far for everyone in my group to walk to DTD and back.

I've seen excellent rates lately for the Fairfield Inn by Marriott Lake Buena Vista at Marriott Village. They include a nice continental breakfast.
It's about 2 miles from DTD.

For just one night I'd say bid either Priceline or purchase on Hotwire, 3* or better. I believe the Hilton DTD is coming up on PL for your date as a Resort, in the Disney World Vicinity, for $65. You could probably bid $45 in the same zone and get the Sheraton Safari, which I stay at often for quick getaways and is clean, great theming, and more than adequate overall.

We stayed at Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista Monday night for $39.99. It was decent and I can't remember ever paying less for a room that was not through priceline.com. Could have chosen Sheraton Safari for $30 more.

Doubletree suites at DTD offers plenty of room. This being the furthest DTD hotel from the marketplace, it may not be best for walking to DTD.

Hotel Royal Plaza would definitely be my pick. It's a 10 minute walk, or a 3 minute drive. We stay there quite a lot when coming down for quicker visits. Obviously, the other Disney resorts are more themed, but for a one night stay, you can't beat it. We love it there (and I'm picky!).

We really enjoyed spending one night at the Staybridge Suites in Lake Buena Vista. Nice and roomy and good breakfast.

Hello,

As on our last visit we have booked through springvacationrentals.com, we had a great time during our stay and our hotel Owner is SUPER to work with!!! He really cares about his home and his renters!!!! It was only about 5 miles from WDW so i would suggest to check in which there are many properties display u can choose from and get a good deal....
