HELLO hungry Dis'ers!!!! :wave2:

My family and I came back on Monday from 11 days in the World and I just wanted to give some quick reviews of where we ate!!!

This was the first time we have gone without the DDP. We used TiW instead, and found it to be much better for our family. Over 11 days, we ate the way we wanted and came in at just under $1,020.00 for food!!! The DDP would have cost us about $1500 and we would not have eaten all of the food (we never do). :confused3

So, without further ado...the restaurants! In no particular order, we ate at:

1) Hurricane Hannah's
2) ESPN Club
3) Tusker House (breakfast)
4) Via Napoli
5) Yachtsman Steakhouse
6) Captains Grille
7) 50's Prime Time
8) Be Our Guest
9) Biergarten
10) Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party

And....a few Flower and Garden food booths!!! :thumbsup2

Hope you'll follow us on our delicious journey!!! :cheer2:

Well, every journey starts somewhere...and our journey to WDW started at Boston Logan Airport.

We ended up eating at Johnny Rocket's, which I had never had before. I ordered....wait for it....a bacon cheeseburger. :upsidedow

This was a pretty good cheeseburger, and definitely hit the spot before our 3 hour flight to MCO. Lots of bacon!!! :thumbsup2

My whole family got the same thing...except the kids got the smaller sizes.

Again, it was a burger, but we were then on our way to some yummy Disney dining!!!

Up Next: Our 1st encounter with Disney food upon arriving...it was a surprise!!! :p

So, after some delays we arrived at the Yacht Club pretty late. We were supposed to get in around 9:30 pm but ended up not getting to YC until about 11:30 pm!

Thank God we had eaten those cheeseburgers or we would have been starving.

So we arrived to find out that we had been chosen as YC Family of the Day!!!:cheer2:

That was pretty exciting! When we got to our room, there was a little treat waiting for us! It was this little number...

I personally did not eat any, but our girls quickly started carving white chocolate Minnie up with a knife...:scared:

They quite enjoyed her and the strawberries!

But it was time to go to bed, because we had some Disney dining ahead of us!!

What a great surprise! How nice to get some pixie dust!

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews. We are not using the dining plan for our August trip. I do love the DxDDP but I wanted a little more freedom to choose this trip. I know I am looking forward to a couple of meals of two or three appetizers rather than an entree!

WOW! What a great surprise! They look delicious!

It was a wonderful dose of pixie dust!! We even got upgraded from our standard view club level room to LAGOON/POOL view club level!!! :faint:

We had an enormous amount of pixie dust this trip. :goodvibes

In regards to not having the DDP...we only made a few ADR's, as we were excited to not be controlled by where we we eating so much. We absolutely LOVED the freedom. I often order appetizers as my meal at home, so it was nice to be able to do that at Disney. With the 20% TiW discount on food and alcohol, we saved a boatload and will definitely be doing that again on our next trip. ::yes::

Thanks for reading along guys! :flower3:

I should note that I am not going in any particular order with these reviews...just kind of as I come across my pictures. :)

Well, we did not have an ADR at Captain's Grille. The night we ended up eating here was a night we had wanted to eat at Beaches and Cream, but were to,d it would be an hour and 45 minute wait. :(

So, we checked at Captain's Grille and they had immediate availability. We were psyched!...until we figured out why they had such availability...

We were actually with a group of 9 (with friends of ours). 4 adults, 5 kids. 3 of the kids ordered chicken noodle soup. It should have been called celery soup, because that's basically all that was in it...seriously. There was about 3 pieces of pasta in it and we couldn't find chicken in any of the three bowls...:confused3

I ordered the crab cake entree. Now, there is a crab cake app as well, that is $10 less. I ordered the dinner entree because 1) it was dinner and 2) I wanted a full meal and potatoes came with the entree.

So, here is my crab cake "entree"

Do you see the potatoes??? :confused3 Because I see a potato...as in one, flaccid sliver of a potato...for $10 more...:furious:

Hmmmmmm.....

The crab cakes themselves were decent. Good amounts of crab meat, and not a lot of filler, but c'mon....where's the rest of the entree? I really should have been charged for an app.

My DH ordered the strip steak. This was it

He was eating it and said it was kind of gristly...then he had to go to the bathroom....and came back saying he wasn't feeling to good....not blaming it on the steak necessarily, but he was seriously getting grossed out by the fat, so I don't think that helped.

He did not finish this.

My friend had ordered the scallops (sorry, no pics)...she said that they were not cooked all the way through. :scared1:
She did not finish this.

Overall, we really did not like this place and will not be returning. Our waitress was extremely slow and we were kind of held hostage there for 2.5 hours because she kept disappearing.

Not to worry, because now we know...and there was plenty of other deliciousness to experience!! :dance3:

Okay....so scratch Captain's Grille off our must do list!:rotfl2: No really, sorry you had to pay an entree price for that? Where was the potato....was it that little beige object to the left of the salad? Brutal!!:scared:

yup. That was the potato. :confused3

Some people really like the place...we just did not enjoy our experience. :duck:

I have debated trying Captain's Grill on and off the past few trips and then I read a review like yours and eliminate it from contention! Sorry you had such a bad meal! That is always so disappointing in Disney.

We could have hit it on a bad (very bad) night?? I have seen good reviews of the place and I am a firm believer in trying things for myself. Maybe you would have better luck?? It's just not one that I could recommend.

I did realize that in the picture of my DH's steak, you can see my friends scallops in the background....the little white lumps on the plate...yeah, those were the scallops. They were tiny little bay scallops (we are used to sea scallops here in New England), and they weren't even seared on top or anything. I'm so confuzzled by our whole experience there. :sad1:

Great start! Can't wait for more!

Thanks for reading along! I've got more to come, some really good stuff so stay tuned! ::yes::

I'm enjoying your reviews and pictures, looking forward to more! :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading along!!! I haven't done a dining report before but I LOVE reading them, so I wanted to contribute! My only problem is that sometimes I would some or ALL of the meal, before I remember to take pictures!!!

My DH was supposed to remind me, but that was hard to do with his mouth full. :rotfl2:

I have wanted to be able to make it down to Disney when they have Food & Wine but have not been able to because of the kids school schedule. :sad2:

Needless to say, I was very excited to see the addition of food and beverage stands to the Flower and Garden festival!!!:cheer2:

We had a couple of delicious items. The first thing we had was the lamb kebab with the couscous salad from Morocco, as seen here (doesn't DH make a beautiful hand model, lol!)

Ok, this was fantastic!!! We had originally bought one and were just going to snack on it amongst the four of us...yeah, my girls devoured the first kebab (being good Greeks, they love lamb) :rotfl2:

We ended up getting two more right then and there. (They were $5/piece, we thought it was a good deal). The lamb was thrown onto the grill upon ordering. It was deliciously seasoned and not too gamey. It was tender and the olive oil drizzle on top was divine!!!

The only thing we did not like was the couscous salad. It was cold (I.E. salad, I guess...). I wasn't expecting it to be cold so that was off-putting, but then it was also sweet, and seasoned with raisins I think??? I despise raisins, so.....

But, the lamb is what we were paying for and it was worth every penny!!!

The other yummy offering I enjoyed was in the American section. It was the pulled pig slider!!!! I had to order it as pulled pork, as I couldn't bring myself to say PULLED PIG (the visuals were too awful, lol!!) :lmao:

Here it is:

This was really good!! There was a nice bark on the outside of the meat and then the rest of the meat was tender and flavorful. The cole slaw on top was really good with the perfect blend of sweet and vinegary spice. I used both the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce mixed together and it was yummy!!

My DD6 actually ate half of this, but it was a perfect snack and went well with my beer!!

F&G booth snacks look delicious!

We ate at Captains Grill and the food was really good but the service was very slow. I was not feeling great that night so I had the soup and liked it but it did have a lot of celery and I can see that it wouldn't be too kid friendly!

Hello friend!!! :wave2:

Thanks for reading!

A few days after we ate at Captains Grille, we were walking by the podium and heard a man telling the hostess that it was the best meal he'd ever had!!! :p

Perhaps we hit it on a bad night, who knows? But it was bad enough for us not to return
:sad2:

Well, we just scrubbed Captains Grille off our list ;)

Seriously, that crab cake entree looked BAD!

But, wow, the Flower & Garden festival offerings look amazing. That lamb has me salivating and the pulled pig looks great too :thumbsup2
