Recent upgrades at AKL

Just wondering if anyone has been upgraded from Standard to something else recently at AKL? We're not counting on an upgrade next week and won't be upset if we don't get one...but a little pixie dust would be nice!

We were there the first week in February (low season) and got two adjoining rooms upgraded from standard to pool view. I really liked the pool view... I could sit on the balcony and watch my husband and son swim while my little one slept.

I'm with you... I usually book the standard view (I don't spend enough time in the room to make it worth the extra cost). But I certainly don't complain if I get a complimentary upgrade

Enjoy the AKL, it is really a beautiful resort.

We didn't get any upgrade during our stay but we had a great time anyway and the lodge is awesome. I will wish you some pixie dust though. Good luck and have a safe and happy vacation.

I think I read on these Boards that AKL has many more savannah view or pool view rooms than they do standard view rooms. Your chances are made better by this fact.

Last summer, in July, we were upgraded to a savannah view room. We didn't ask or anything. We were too busy thinking about how early it was that we were checking in, and thinking about stowing our luggage, waiting for our room, etc. We had just finished the Disney cruise, and had arrived at AKL at like 9:30am or so. Imagine our surprise when she said "your room is ready and we have given you a complimentary upgrade to a savannah view". Sweet music to our astonished ears!

Remember though, there are many, many places to view the animals from if you don't get an upgrade. The resort is beautiful! Good luck!

I just returned Sun from 8 days at AKL and we got upgraded from standard to savanah view!! We were on Zebra trail 3rd floor. It was great. I never faxed or requested ahead of time. Just asked at check in if I could get a room close to pool and lobby and Mara.
Room was ready as soon as we got there(checked in before 11am.)

My sister and her husband are at AKL right now. They arrived on Sunday. I faxed the room controller a nice note asking if they could receive a complimentary upgrade if one was available when they checked in (they had a standard view room booked at the $124 + tax rate). She called Sunday night and they got a free upgrade to savannah, which has a current rack rate of $315 + tax. The two times that my family has stayed there, we have received a free upgrade from standard to savannah. I think that less than 10% of the rooms at AKL are standard view, so your odds of an upgrade are pretty good.

so do you think it is better to ask for an upgrade when you get there? or fax ahead of time? i've also heard they don't always read their faxes and you should put in any room requests through your travel agent. or would calling be better?

i'm in the same boat. booked standard and would love an upgrade to something better (pref. savannah) but i can't afford it pay the savannah costs.

You really should go expecting a parking lot view. We have stayed there times where that's what we got. We have also been upgraded to pool view, which was a nice surprise. They really don't upgrade everyone.

I've been to AKL twice and both times I have gotten upgraded from standard to savanah view. You Should Have no pblm.. Good Luck!!!

I'm also hoping we get upgraded this weekend. We're arriving after midnight, so I'm hoping for an upgrade and waking up to see animals outside. We're also staying at BWI, but I'd be happy with a view of Illuminations. I'll let you all know when we get back.

As part of the upgrade discussion, here is my question....most people who are receiving upgrades say that they were upgraded from a standard view to savannah view. We currently have a pool view booked....any hopes for getting up there into the savannah? I am not expecting it, but just wondered if that ever happened?

Also, wondered if people who do NOT use the passholder rate may be upgraded BEFORE someone using the passholder rate (since they technically are paying more for their room), or if that matters? We also have passes and got that passholder rate.

PLEASE, somebody, convince me that the pool view is okay! It is all we can afford for this trip! That savannah view is PRI-CEY!!! (and I AM happy to just stay there!)

Less than 10% of the rooms are standard. UNLESS the resort is sold out the chances of an upgrade are pretty good.

THIS IS THE EXCEPTION, in other resorts major upgrades are much less common.

We are going in July and have a pool view booked. I was wondering if I should come out and ask or wait to see if they automatically give us the upgrade.
