Recent Tusker House reviews?

I just booked a RoL dining pkg. for dinner at Tusker House for this summer and then afterwards I read some scathing reviews of the food, service and wait times. I have heard the breakfast there are better than dinner but we have AP's and park hop so will not be there all day so the breakfast plan doesn't work for us.

I booked here for a couple of reasons. First, DH and I absolutely LOVE  Tiffins but our son not so much (he will be 20 on this next trip so it's not a picky kid thing he just didn't love it). We have TIW so I hate to pay $67 pp for the pkg if we can eat at Tiffins for a lot less on another time without the pkg. Also, we ate lunch at Tiffins on our last 2 trips but haven't eaten at Tusker in probably 3 or 4 years so I thought 'eh, we'll save a few bucks and go there instead for a change - overall for the 3 of us it's a $45 price difference plus gratuity. I do rememer the last time thinking that it was just OK - not horrible but not GREAT either - certainly not as good as Boma. That's why we haven't been back since. Then someone forwarded me this horrible blogger review today on Tusker and I'm really torn on if I should keep it or switch. So then I look here & didn't see any recent reviews so then I go on Trip Advisor and find a pretty mixed bag of reviews. I'm not going for the characters so much as I am for a good meal and the reserved seating area. I know reviews are subjective but I truely hate to pay $52 pp and feel like we may as well just burned the money.

Anybody eat here recently for dinner? Thoughts on if it's gone downhill? Was it really that bland? Was the wait to be seated really 45 minutes past your ADR time? Did the salmon really have a lot of bones? TIA!!

I just went for lunch about a week ago. Ive only been for breakfast in the past and was never a huge fan due to some of the spices they put in the food. I tended to stay clear for any other meal, but always enjoyed the character interaction for breakfast on our AK days. I always found something to eat, but their eggs and breakfast meats just tasted weird to me.

For my lunch service was fine. No complaints at all in that category. There were not too many lunch items I thought looked appetizing to me....but that is just me. I dont eat seafood or anything on bones, so basically most meat was out. I did get some rolls and they had deli meats in a different section, so I made myself some "sliders" and had a few side items and salad. I definitely did not go hungry and enjoyed the meal/characters.

I got this lunch for the ROL package as well. The show is FANTASTIC! One thing to note...viewing is stadium style. You wont miss anything by viewing from the top. I was fortunate to get a second row seat! Wow!!! I thought it was my lucky day until the show was over and I turned around to exit! Obviously, we were practically the last people to get out of there. Took a good 20 - 25 minutes. :(

We didn't have any issues recently as well. Here is what I posted. https://www.disboards.com/threads/day-trip-to-animal-kingdom.3581619/ It's not a full review of Tusker House, but I had a brief discussion on the experience. I am a food snob and I thought the food was very good. We ate here several times and have had similar experiences, but it's entirely possible some people may have have a bad experience. If the food is not fresh or crap ingredients are used, I am probably the first one to complain.
When we went it was busy, but probably not as busy as it is right now with spring break. We made reservations the morning of, and when we arrived, we were seated within 5 minutes. We expected a bit of a wait and were heading over to the bar when they called our names. We had my 6 year old with us and characters came a couple of times when he was getting food to eat. The waiter told us not to worry, he would make sure the characters would be back. My son got to meet each character and then they all returned together for a group picture before we left. The food was placed out in small quantities to most likely ensure it was always fresh. I never had to wait for food. Someone always came around and was replacing portions before the selection was empty.

We've only ever had lunch at TH and both times thought it was outstanding! We felt that the lunch compared favorably to dinner at Boma. We were totally surprised by that because Boma has been a favorite since it opened. :earsboy:

ETA: Most recent experience was June 2016.

We have had lunch here twice in the past 4 years and dinner in December and it was good each time. Nothing mind blowingly amazing, but good food all around.

We had a late lunch there as part of our ROL package the first weekend in March and both of us really liked it. There was some "adventurous" food but other food as well. We do like a lot of different spices in our food but we thought it would be a solid choice for those that do not. The desserts were really good, I loved the flourless chocolate cakes and the 7 layer type bars.

We just had late breakfast/turned into lunch last Thursday and was very happy with our experience. I thought the food was good and loved the different options. It was also nice to have breakfast and lunch foods (reservation was for 11:20am). Our boys loved the characters and Goofy was dancing his heart out when we left.

We had lunch in march and enjoyed it. Food was good. Service was ok We were seated pretty much on time.

Tusker House is one of my favorite restaurants. I've only eaten lunch there. i prefer more ethnic foods over traditional

To piggyback - how is breakfast? We LOVE Boma breakfast, and we love the flavor profiles of African/Indian, etc. foods... will we find a lot of that at breakfast, or is it pretty Americanized?

We're eating here for the first time this Aug so I've read every post that I find on here on Tusker House and almost all have been positive. I've read very few negative things about this restaurant, especially compared to Chef Mickey's or something like that. I think you will be fine.

Most recent diner experience was in August of 2016. There was a bit of an extra wait time after our ressie time, but nothing I would complain about. The service was amazing--our waitress was attentive--and the character wait times weren't bad either. The food was the main issue for me. And trust me when I say, I am NOT picky and consider myself an adventurous eater. I tried almost everything, and was highly disappointed (bland, like you said) so I found it to be kind of a waste. My children felt the same way and we left hungry.
