So I have spinal neck surgery, still in neck brace, 11 weeks ago. We go to Aulani in about 3 weeks. I really want to go out and do the dolphin trip etc. How bad are waves and waters etc.? I know boat are bumpy but I am worried about huge waves and extreme bumps.

Suggestions?

You really need to check with your Dr on this one. I suspect the answer will be no go.

My wife has had 2 spinal neck surgeries (c-4 to c6 and then c6 again) over the past year and has found the healing to take a few months but that's a very individual thing. She still wears the neck brace when flying. We just got back from Aulani a couple of weeks ago and she found she needed the brace on the flights and even in the car for a few trips, after a surgery in early March.

I can get pretty bumpy. We are in the pacific ocean, not the carribean. There is a big difference

light seas can be 3-4 foot waves, but a boat going over that at any moderate rate of speed can slam down on the water, compressing the spine of anyone sitting on that boat.

every power boat trip I have taken in Hawaii has been bumpy enough that I wouldn't recommend it for you. A sailing cruise might be better but this throws up all sorts of red flags for me.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but was hoping the water weren't that rough, lol.

Having sailed to Hawaii, the water is calm for the ocean... but that's not saying much. The ocean is strong and unforgiving. Hawaii gets waves from the tradewinds that blow in for over 2000 miles and wrap around all sides of the islands.

It's goregeous, warm and predictable in the summer, but not calm.

A catamaran is more forgiving than a regular boat. North shore in summer is usually calm, but south shore can be very rough. East side can be rough at any time.
