We were at OKW from 6/1 to 6/12 in a 2 bedroom lockoff; 1825 & 1826. We usually get a 1 bedroom as there are only three of us, but since we had the points, we decided to use them so my 15 yr. old daughter could have her own room. It worked out great especially because it rained almost the whole time we were there and spent more time than usual in the unit.
Check in went smoothly. We arrived about 11 a.m. and were told our room was ready. Then the cm said, you're in building 24 which is a garden view room and you requested golf course or water, so I don't think you'll be happy with it since you're staying for so long. I have a list of building requests that I've been using since we joined in '94 that I use for every reservation; I never realized bldg. 24 wasn't a golf course view so it was on my list. The wonderful cm did a search and came up with a few options; we chose 1825 & 1826. It turned out to be the best view we've ever had. We could see the golf course, bridge, and two fountains. I'll be posting some pictures in a few days.
The unit was great, as usual. I love the new washers; they're super capacity rather than the smaller ones that used to be in there. There's a non-stick pan and utensils to go with it. The list of items shows blenders were available on request, but there was one in the cabinet already. One thing that I didn't like is the new beds. They are way too high! I'm only 5'1" and I had to slide down to get out of bed! Had my back been bothering me, there would have been no way I could have gotten up into that thing. Next trip I'm bringing a stepstool.
The beds in the studio are even higher. My daughter is 5'5" and she said she had a problem getting in and out of the bed. By the end of the trip, she had bruises all over her legs and all we can figure is she must have banged her legs on the wood frame getting in & out of bed. I think in the future as the OKW member population ages, this could really be a problem. The good thing is that the mattresses are extremely comfortable.
I found out something that I never knew before. If you're staying in a lockoff, sometimes there's a different housekeeper assigned to the 1 bedroom part. The day we were supposed to have trash & towel, only the 1 bedroom had been done. My daughter forgot and left the privacy sign on the door to the studio section, but the door between the rooms was left open. The housekeeping supervisor told me that whoever cleaned the 1 bedroom was supposed to notify the housekeeper for the studio that even though the privacy sign was out, the room was empty, but they didn't. They sent someone right away to finish up. The housekeeper told us that the computer shows all lock offs as separate units so they aren't always assigned to both parts.
We saw the infamous towel train late one afternoon; they must have had a lot of complaints about it going through in the early morning hours. Every morning at 6:30, we heard the mowers on the golf course. Not a big deal because by then the birds had already been chirping so I was up.
We only ate at Olivia's twice this trip, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Breakfast was good, but lunch left a bit to be desired. We usually eat at Olivia's several more times, but they've really cut back on the quantity of food but not on the prices. I always get the turkey reuben sandwich at least once; it used to be huge. This time there was half as much meat as in previous years. I can't remember exactly what my daughter had, but it also was very skimpy on the meat. I hope we just hit them on a bad day because Olivia's was one of our favorite restaurants.
I know there were other things I was going to mention, but I'm not one to take notes while on vacation, so I don't remember what they were. OKW was as beautiful as it was the first time we stayed in '94. I don't know if we got any Welcome Homes but everyone was very friendly which to me means more than the Welcome Homes ever did. The parks were the least crowded we've ever seen them at this time of year. At 9:30 the morning we went to MK, there was only a 5 minute wait for Splash Mountain and Railroad Mountain. Snow White was a walk on at 10:30 am and Peter Pan only had a 5 minute wait. Despite all the rain, we had a great trip and as always, I'm looking forward to my next stay at OKW.
