We had dinner at 'Ohana last Friday night, and we were a little perplexed by the entertainment. It was a lady from Hawaii who sang and did little parades with the kids. It was strange!

Does anyone know who I'm talking about? Just wondering what the deal is! :rolleyes1

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to reply to this. She is always there and yes, that is the entertainment. What do you mean what is the deal?

Not a joke...we just thought she was really odd! The things she said were strange, she wasn't very interactive with the kids, and quite frankly, she was dressed a little over the top! DH is convinced "she" wasn't a she, but I think she was just weird. Apparently, I'm the only one though! :)

She is definitely a she and I have never heard her make a strange comment. She has always been wonderful when the kids when we go, and we go every trip.

OP,
You are not alone in your opinion. But, yes, that's the show. How entertainnig you find it to be is subject to your own personal tastes. Frankly, I too would label it as "strange."

Well thank goodness its not just me! I surely didn't post this to be offensive or as a joke, and while she was "entertaining", I thought the whole performance was a little strange!

Did you take pictures of her? just wondering what she looked like?
I was also thinking that her act may be perfectly normal for
the Hawaiian culture. Since you are from a different culture
you may not have got it. I have heard of her before but we have not
eaten dinner there yet, but will on our next trip.

While is was a little "scripted" we thought the entertainment was a lot of fun, and DD LOVED being a part of it. I thought it looked like great fun for the kids. They got a hula lesson, the limbo, and a coconut race while we were there. It was a little different from the norm, and yes mabye even a little "over the top", but what isn't at Disney if we are really honest with ourselves?? Where else is a person dressed in a big furry costume, and everyone calling the little girls "princess" considered totally normal? I personally love "over the top"!!

I don't remember a woman, we had a man who sang and took the children around.....am I remembering correctly?

I remember a Hawaiian man that sang with a eukalele. He was very good, engaged the children with the coconut races and hula contests and even recognized DH as being from the Philippines. Apparently he had been to PI and said Hawaiians were not so different, cousin. We really liked him.

I have seen the lady the last couple of times. If it is the same one, I don't believe she is from Hawaii originally. I recall talking to her, and finding her a bit odd as well. She was not dressed over the top, and had a nice voice. Her personality put me off a bit. Maybe that is what you are feeling.

Maybe I just miss the nice Hawaiian guy.

Is this her. This is a photo of her wishing a friend of our a Happy Birthday when we were down this past March. We love listening to her and she always seems to have loads of fun with the kids.

We have also seen the man - I guess he is the entertainment on her days off.

I prefer the male entertainer... I know what you are all saying about the female singer... for some reason she seemed off and we just didn't enjoy her as much.

I definitely agree, my family thinks that he is very good. I find him to be a far better performer. :thumbsup2

We miss him too!:guilty:

Hopefully, he'll be performing when we go in a few months.

I think her name is Lipoa. Any time we've been at 'Ohana, she seems to be having a lot of fun with the kids.

FIY---she also narrates and plays the drums during the torch lighting ceremony at the poly.

Hope you guys had a good trip!

I guess I expected more of what you mentioned, but there were no hula lessons, limbo, or coconut races during our dinner. I thougt I remembered all that from last time, and I had told DD that would be going on. I remember the kids doing a parade with maracas last time, too, but the only thing the kids got to do was two "parades" where she sang and the kids followed her around. :confused3 I don't really remember her engaging the kids at all. I just remember her making us turn to the table next to us to say "Hello Cousin"! :rotfl: I'm all about audience interaction, but it was a little awkward!

Anyway, no big deal...the meal was great, so I'm definitely not complaining. It was just not what I expected, but maybe we were just there on the wrong night!
