I was curious about surprise item i might watch for, i've already heard that my friend lost her chocolate right before her very eyes, a tragic loss!!! her $75 perfume didn't make her cry but her chocolate did....what all else has had to be discarded from your carry ons recently???

Unfortunately, some things are being confiscated that TSA spokespeople say are allowed (such as 4 oz. contact lens solution and unmarked containers).

www.tsa.gov will tell you which items are banned

i'm hearing other things are being reject though, and want some helpful hints like the chocolate!!

Chocolate? I carried M&M's and a Crunch bar onto my last flight and nobody batted an eyelash.

I carried on a chocolate covered apple from Goofys Candy company with no problems in August...two days after the restrictions went into place. I would have cried if I lost that. I love my chocolate!

The bottom line is that the what is allowed thru security varies WIDELY depending on the screener and/or airport (and sometimes varies between screeners at the same airport). The limited responses on this quesition here are a good example - chocolate was reported siezed at one checkpoint, but others here have had no problems with getting it thru. IMHO not being able to determine what you can get thru security with any degree of confidence is beginning to undermine even sheeple's feeling of "goodwill" towards the newest security restrictions.

what about nail glue or gel lip gloss?

with all the confusion, I would be *GREAT* if they could Check your BAgs BEFORE you gave you luggage to the reps..that way IF you did indeed have items thta may not be allowed, you could put them into your suitcase THEN< instead of losing the items to the trash..wishful thinking as of course that would mean extra $$ to pay for those screeners at the door.... we are flying in 3 weeks to Orlando, and plan to pack EVERYTHING in the suitcases possible, so as not to deal with the miscommunication when we arrive...

We are down here right now...DH is taking a nap :confused3 Anyhow I checked all of my carryon stuff closely, or so I thought. When I got down here I was digging in my purse and found a half empty container of hand sanitizer that I had forgotten. I was not stopped and it will be packed for the return home tomorrow.

I forgot to check my makeup bag in Sept. and they took my gel lip gloss, Mickey lotion, and Tide To Go.

I did have the option to mail it home, but didn't, as I didn't want to miss my plane.

I flew twice this week. Did the whole baggie mess both times. Today I was rummaging in the purse and found... lip GEL which CLEARLY should have been in the baggie but wasn't.... Makes you wonder... I was not trying to sneak it on, I don't even like the stuff I found, but there you have it....

I wouldnt EVEN attempt nail glue. That's a chemical adheasive. If they were cracking down on things like lip gloss and such I am pretty sure they would have cracked down hard if you tried that one. I could be wrong if they have lightend it enough, but I highly doubt it has been lightend to the exstint they would allow that one.jmho

On the way to MCO (through Newark), I was able to get through sunscreen that was in a very small bottle that is hooked to the outside of my diaper bag. I had forgotten about it until we got down there.

For the trip back I made sure I unhooked it and packed it in the checked luggage as I did not want a problem. But, I had a BIG problem anyway:

When we were packing for the trip home, I asked DS5 to pack all the toy weapons he purchased while in WDW. He got swords in Japan, a huge riffle at the Pirates of the Caribbean (that actually was boxed & checked as its own piece of luggage), two small derringers & another pistol at Indiana Jones. I kept saying to DS, "put the guns in the BAGs" while we were packing up. Bags to me meant luggage. Well at some point BAG to him meant diaper bag. While all the larger weapons made it into his luggage, 2 small toy derringers made their way into an obscure pocket deep in my huge diaper bag. I truly thought I was being so careful. I told the woman who was taking our checked bags that I wanted to disclose that we had several toy weapons in our luggage. She said with so many travellers coming from WDW they were use to this - not a problem - they see the same toy pistols every day.

I was deeply embarassed as this all unfolds at the x-ray machines. Needless to say the police officers took the derringers and we opted for them to throw them out (rather than go back and check them).

I will now double check my carryon bag to be sure my sons have not put anything in there! DS5 learned a lesson with me this time, but I still have DS2 to "train"

i'm flying to boston tomorrow night with only a carryon. i'll let you know how it goes. i have my plastic bag with my little shower bottles (labeled), my 2oz bottle of contact lens solution, my toothpaste and my liquid makeup. we'll see what happens.

Definitely depends on the airport. I know someone who had less than half a 6 oz tube of toothpaste (so under the 3 oz rule) and got through one airport, but when returning had to throw it out. Some screeners/airports are more restrictive than others. It's really about interpretation of the rules. I'm heading to Vegas in a couple of weeks and plan on checking everything liquid (except my Starbucks I buy past security :goodvibes ).

We flew out of columbus, oh airport, sept 29, returned oct 8th, thru mco.

On the way out of columbus. I had my quart baggies, one for my husband and one for myself. Items that were in the plastic baggies that were not in original, or marked container, were confiscated. They didn't care, what was in it, I had those little clear bottles which were only like 1-2 oz, and they wanted to toss them all out. I was lucky in the fact that my checked luggage had just gone thru the big scanner and were still visable, and the sky cap guy got my luggage so I could toss my stuff in. They took my 4 oz contact solution bottle too.

I had some old sample size shampoo bottles, that I had refilled with my "stuff". They didn't look at what was in those solid colored bottles, that were not see thru. As long as it was a branded bottle under the 3 oz they let it thru, clear generic bottle no label, took away.

In orlando, they didn't even ask to look at the quart ziplock bags w/ liquids in them. There was a super huge difference in what the 2 airports did or didn't do when looking at the quart ziplock stuff. All depends on what airport your flying thru and what screeners you get.

We're sitting in our seats on the plane, when I put my hand into my small carry-on to take out a lifesaver candy and realized that I had a bottle of water. I meant to throw it away before we went through security. :guilty:

I forgot my hand lotion was in my purse flying out of MCO. Nobody said a word. I did turn over some hand sanitizer I remembered I had. It was 3 ounces but because I didn't have it in a ziploc, they took it.

I was hassled about my baby's diaper rash cream, until I pointed out that his name was on the prescription taped firmly around the box and the tube, and his name matched his ticket and birth certificate. (I was prepared!)

And yet no one asked me if his sippy cup (not clear) was empty. (It was!)
